Samuel Douglass of Troy, won his race in the Republican primary Tuesday, outpacing Aime Conrad Bellevance of Newport Center by a margin of 713 to 582.

Mr. Douglass’ win means he will face off against Democrat Katherine Sims of Craftsbury in the race to succeed long-serving Senator Robert Starr of Troy, who decided not to seek reelection this fall.

Ms. Sims had no opposition in seeking the Democratic nomination for the Senate seat representing much of Orleans County, a few towns in Caledonia County, and Montgomery in Franklin County.  She pulled in a total of 1,204 votes.
