DERBY — Journey to Recovery, a Newport organization dedicated to helping people who are working to free themselves from all forms of addiction, hopes to open a residential program in a former nursing home here. Lila Bennett, the organization’s director, attended Monday’s select board meeting to talk about the proposal and answer questions.
The Derby Green Nursing Home off of Route 5 has been closed since 2020. Journey to Recovery hopes to create a sober living environment there. Ms. Bennett told the board her organization is growing and continues to expand its services to help people overcome issues with substance abuse.
She said Journey to Recover has a detox bed, but beyond that there is little support to help people into a stable life….
