The Orleans Central Supervisory Union (OCSU) is looking for a new superintendent. Whoever is selected to take over from retiring Superintendent Penny Chamberlin might be smart to rent a place to live. If the education plan put forward by Governor Phil Scott goes into effect as proposed, that job will be gone by the start of the 2026-2027 school year.
OCSU, along with Vermont’s other 51 supervisory unions, and 119 school districts, will be only memories. In their place will be five regional supervisory unions — part of a plan the Agency of Education says will provide better educational outcomes at a lower cost that the present model.
What Governor Scott is proposing is a total revamp of the current education system, including a new way of paying for education that is supposed to provide a clearer link between education spending and tax rates.
