Gerard J. Carrier
Gerard J. Carrier, 91, of Glover, died on May 14, 2017, at his home.
He was born on November 18, 1925, in Warwick, Quebec, a son of Adelard and Amanda (Foucault) Carrier.
He immigrated to the Glover area where he met his wife, Theresa, in 1948. They married on May 14, 1949, and purchased their farm in Glover. Mr. Carrier owned his own farm for 25 years, raising their family, and then sold it and went into carpentry. He built their home on Still Hill and became self-employed. He enjoyed his work, building, remodeling, and doing different kinds of woodworking. He was very talented and loved to build furniture, and he designed his own lawn chairs. He enjoyed and loved family gatherings and playing cards with his friends.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Theresa Carrier, of Glover; by his children: Roland Carrier and his wife, Lise, of Bradenton, Florida, Alfred Carrier and his wife, Barbara, of Glover, Peter Carrier and his wife, Julie, of Coventry; by eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Clemente Carrier, of Warwick; and by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Paul Carrier; his daughter Alice Rexford; and by his son-in-law Allen Rexford. He is also predeceased by six brothers and nine sisters.

Margaret Carter
Margaret Carter, 79, of Lowell, died in Newport on February 6, 2017.
She was born in London, England, on November 9, 1937, to Henry and Lydia Andrews. She married a member of the United States military, Ralph Murphy, and came with him to the U.S. when she was in her early 20s. She became a U.S. citizen in 1980. She worked at Ethan Allen Furniture and was the office manager at Agri-Mark. She was an active member of St. Ignatius Church in Lowell for many years. She married Everett “Bud” Carter in June, 1989. She enjoyed traveling with him to England to see her family.
Mrs. Carter is predeceased by Ralph Murphy; Henry Murphy Jr.; Bud Carter; and her sister Maude Reynolds of Norwich, England.
She is survived by two sisters: Mary Kayser and Rita Smith, both of whom live in England; numerous nieces and nephews in England, including Ken Reynolds; by Mr. Carter’s children: John Carter and his wife, Sherrie, and Victoria; her grandchildren Christi, Peter, and Rachel; and her great-grandson Kaleb.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at St. Ignatius Church in Lowell. Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery.

Tressie E. (Wurst) Cote
Tressie “Gram” E. (Wurst) Cote, 70, of West Glover, died on May 15, 2017, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury.
She was born on December 3, 1946, in Springfield, Massachusetts, to Philip D. and Elizabeth K. (Kempton) Wurst. She attended Springfield schools and graduated from Commerce High School and started work as a healthcare billing specialist. She continued this work throughout her life, working for numerous healthcare facilities. On August 21, 1982, she married Ronald A. Cote.
Mrs. Cote loved spending time with her close family and friends and always felt “the more the merrier.” She loved to travel and enjoyed most of her last minute and spur of the moment trips. She was always up for a road trip anywhere. She enjoyed shopping and doing for others.
Mrs. Cote was predeceased by her parents; her brother Philip D. Wurst Jr.; her sister Mae O. Templeman; and her daughter Tina M. Bulley.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Ronald Cote; her daughter Patricia Ash and her husband, Dana, of Littleton, New Hampshire; her stepdaughters: Debra Lentendre and her husband, Rene, and Tami Enman and her husband, Doug; by her grandchildren: Jennifer Chaples, Kevin Bergdoll, Kristie Wright, and Ashley Bergdoll; her great-grandchildren: Rene, Lauren, Caiden, Logan, Colton, and Ryder; her nieces, nephews, many friends, and her beloved dog, Pixie.
Mrs. Cote was know as “Gram” to many and also leaves behind numerous “adopted” kids and grandkids.
A celebration of life will be held at her residence on County Road in West Glover on July 1, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a donation to the family in care of Community National Bank, P.O. Box 577, Barton, Vermont 05822.

Larry T. Labor
Larry Labor, 75, of Brownington died on December 23, 2016, surrounded by family and friends.
He was born on September 5, 1941. He set a true example for how to enjoy life. Mr. Labor liked making people laugh and smile. He enjoyed talking about the history of the community and the people who live in it. He loved hunting for antiques with his wife, Katie. He liked tending to his chickens and walking his dogs. He was a hard worker and a true do-it-yourselfer, even if that meant the project ended with a few cuts and bruises.
Mr. Labor’s favorite thing to do was spend time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He did not want any formal funeral arrangements, however, such a great person who lived an amazing life needs to be recognized.
Mrs. Labor will host a celebration of life on June 3, at 3 p.m., at their house at 3417 Schoolhouse Road, Brownington. The ceremony will start with military honors and will be followed with a barbecue.

Patricia Rai Lee
Patricia Rai Lee, 73, of Craftsbury, and more recently of North Concord, died on May 19, 2017, in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
She was born on August 21, 1943, in Camden, New Jersey, to Harold and Eunice (Hayes) Lee. She graduated from Pennsauken High School in Delair, New Jersey, in 1963. She moved to Craftsbury, in 1971 and later to Loch Lomond in North Concord in 2004.
She is survived by her sister Alice Menard and her husband, Arthur, of Craftsbury; by her brother Robert Hayes Lee and his wife, Joan, of Pennsylvania; and also by ten nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., on Sunday, May 28, at the Craftsbury Village Cemetery with the Reverend Kim Larose officiating. Online condolences can be shared at curtis-britch.com.
Cecile T. Letourneau
Cecile T. Letourneau, 93, died on May 16, 2017, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine.
She was born on January 2, 1914, in Sanford, Maine, one of 12 children loved and nurtured by Alphonse and Odile (Mercier) Therrien. She attended Holy Family School and lived in town.
She married Paul A. Letourneau Sr. in October of 1947, and they welcomed their son, Paul Jr. into their lives in 1949. Mrs. Letourneau was a loving mother and devoted to her family. She worked at the Goodall Mills and later worked as a talented seamstress at a local dress shop. She enjoyed family gatherings, gardening, sailing with her husband and son, and traveling. A special day was babysitting for one of her nieces. A woman of deep faith, she attended Mass and was a member of the Ladies of St. Ann. Later in life, she cared for her mother until her passing.
In 1987, she started wintering in Florida with her husband until his death in 1996, then continued spending the winter months with her son in Florida and summers in Maine. She also enjoyed going to eat with some of her siblings and did her best to cope with her declining health.
She is lovingly survived by her son, Paul A. Letourneau Jr.; her sister Lorraine Legere; and one brother, Joseph R. Therrien, all of Sanford. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Letourneau always tried to be helpful to family members and worked hard all of her life.
A Mass was held on May 24, at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford. Committal prayers and burial followed at St. Ignatius Cemetery.

Pauline A. McDuff
Pauline A. McDuff, 89, died April 14, 2017, at Mountain View Center Genesis Healthcare in Rutland.
She was born in Dixville, Quebec, on November 12, 1927, to Joseph and Bernadette (Gaudreault) Bouchard. She grew up on the family farm in Dixville and received her early education there.
She married Gaston McDuff on July 8, 1948, in Dixville. They were married for 56 years when Mr. McDuff died on August 7, 2004.
The family moved to Island Pond in 1957. She became involved in her community through volunteering and working in various areas at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, as well singing in the choir. She had many friends who shared her love of bingo, playing cards, and jigsaw puzzles. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Her homemade bread and tourtieres (meat pies) will be missed by everyone
She is survived by her daughters: Jeannine Griffin of Brandon, and Nicole McDuff of Pittsford; her sons Jean of Rutland, Laurent and his wife, Marie, of Pittsford, Pierre and his wife, Julie, of Topsham, Maine; by eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; three children: Diane, Daniel, and Roger; her son-in-law Deacon Gary Griffin; a sister Marguerite; and two brothers: Marcel and Gilbert.
Friends may call on Thursday, May 25, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Island Pond from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by a Mass at 11:30 a.m., at St. James the Greater Catholic Church. Burial will be at 3:15 p.m., in Dixville, Quebec.

Michael “Mike” Paul Monteith
Michael “Mike” Paul Monteith, 49, the son of Susan Dagesse of Derby, died suddenly on April 8, 2017, in Santa Monica, California.
He was born in Morrisville, on July 1, 1967. He lived most of his life in Vermont. He enjoyed fishing and being in his rowboat on Lake Memphremagog. He always had a big smile on his face, and loved his family deeply. He was always active in his Abenaki Indian heritage and Grey Wolf spent a lot of time learning from his uncle, Chief Black Horse (Richard Phillips), whom he always admired.
He leaves behind his only son, Donovan Blouin and his wife, Jennifer, of Brattleboro; his daughters: Myla Blouin of Newport, and Nina Reynolds of Montana; also his grandchildren: Zylus, Vincent, and Jade, and Nina’s daughter; also the mother of two of his children, April Blouin, who was his lifetime love; his mother Susan Dagesse of Derby and her husband, Leo; and his father, Gordon Monteith Sr. of Hardwick.
He also leaves behind his siblings, including his only brother Gordon Monteith and his wife, Sandy, of Derby; and his sisters Tammie Currier and her husband, Jonathan, of Jeffersonville, Christine Goodell of Coventry and her boyfriend, Brian Brault, Misty Poitras of Derby, Lisa Monteith and her boyfriend, Anthony DeSanto, of Barton, and Gabrielle Monteith of Hardwick.
He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be missed by many.
He was predeceased recently by his sister Barbie Monteith; his grandmother Catherine Jackson; his niece Misty Laviolette; his nephew Roger Menard; and his brother-in-law Roger Goodell; and several other family members.
A celebration of his life will be held on July 1, in East Charleston.
Gille Joseph Plante
Gille Joseph Plante, 85, of Irasburg, died peacefully on May 13, 2017, in the presence of his loving wife and family at North Country Hospital in Newport.
Gille was born on July 19, 1931, in Morgan, the son of Herve and Annette (Lalime) Plante.
An integral part of his life was his dedication as a member and employee of the Orleans Country Club, where he and his wife, Lillian, enjoyed playing golf, and also their involvement with St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. He served in the Korean War for the United States Army. He continued on to serve our community as an EMT for the Orleans Ambulance Squad. For many, he will be well remembered as the custodian who was always laughing and smiling at the Irasburg Village School and Ethan Allen Mill.
As he aged gracefully, he treasured visits from family and friends. He enjoyed sitting on the porch he built, watching the birds, playing cards, and teasing all of the little ones. When he wasn’t playing jokes on his friends and family, his strong convictions and quiet presence left an imprint on the lives of many. His beautiful smile and the twinkle in his eye will be missed by many.
Mr. Plante is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Lillian (Delisle) Plante; their two loving children: Robert Plante and his companion, Marguerite Descheneau, and Linda Plante and her companion, Brian Parenteau; his loving grandchildren: Tim Plante and his wife, Kelly, Jennifer Cote and her husband, Winston Cote Jr., Jonathan Charles, Jillian Charles, Daniel Plante, and Andrew Plante; by 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter; and by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter Diane Plante; his parents, Herve and Annette; and also by his siblings: Roger, Emile, Camile, Leo, and Donald Plante, and his favorite little sister Rita Blais.
