After the buzzer sounded the end of Lake Region’s 47-35 win over the girls of Williamstown High School, the Lady Rangers began the traditional chant, thanking their opponents, the referees, and the fans.
When they turned to the stands, normally crowded with ardent supporters, the girls laughed. The risers were almost empty, save for players’ backpacks.
One of the very few people present to see the game, Lake Region Principal Andre Messier, gave a little bow in acknowledgement of the Rangers’ thanks.
Friday’s game was the first of the season for all the Rangers.
