Elementary-middle school budget passes

The 150 voters who turned out to Lake Region Union High School Monday night for the Lake Region Union Elementary and Middle School District’s annual meeting approved the district’s $17,387,565 budget by a narrow, but sufficient, margin of 81 to 73.  Approval came after a presentation on the finer points of school budgeting from Davi Bock, board member from Glover, and conversation about the inflation of last year’s approved budget in reporting to the state.

Each district is required to tell the state how much voters agreed to spend for the next school year.  That information is used to set the statewide education property tax rate.  Last year the report from the Orleans Central Supervisory Union (OCSU) gave a figure $1.7-million higher than what voters approved….
