Cat-killer gets probation and fine

Trooper Abigail Drew said in an affidavit that Taren Marckres , 32, of Wolcott, killed a woman’s cat after getting in a fight with her on October 19, 2019.

Mr. Marckres pled guilty to a felony charge of cruelty to animals resulting in a fatality.  Judge Thibault gave him a suspended three-month-to one-year sentence.  He will remain on probation for two years and must pay $1,347 in fines and surcharges.

The woman said Mr. Marckres was drunk and, because she didn’t want to be seen in public with him when he was in that condition, she refused to go shopping with him…
