Barton finds zoning violation

BARTON — Barton’s Development Review Board (DRB) gathered on Thursday, October 10, to decide on a zoning violation appeal made a week prior by Thomas Wood of Orleans Village.

In September, the property where Mr. Wood resides — the former Orleans Commission Sales barn — was found to be in violation of Section 322 of the Barton zoning regulations, which regulates possession of livestock and pets for non-agricultural purposes.

Mr. Wood appealed the violation at a hearing on October 3, claiming he was exempt from the bylaws because he keeps animals for the purposes of farming, and has done so for 58 years.

After deliberating about Mr. Wood’s appeal for a week, DRB member Lenny Zenonos moved to uphold Zoning Administrator Sarah Bailey’s violation and “deny Wood’s appeal.” …
