Barton board keeps the living from the dead

BARTON — Few of the living really want to sleep in a graveyard, although the dead find the accommodations suitable to their needs.  Such considerations called for private discussion at the Barton Select Board meeting Monday night.  The board and a resident talked about a request to sell a portion of the Welcome O. Brown Cemetery before coming to an agreement that works for the town, one of the graveyard’s neighbors, and those who expect to be buried in the cemetery when their time comes to die.

Board members got a letter from Angela Martin Schnellinger, an abutting landowner, asking them to consider the sale of four acres of the cemetery. …
