Back in 1984 David Vermette attended his father’s graveside service in Maine. Wandering the cemetery he ran across odd, distinctly French, names like Hyacinthe and Onesime. He was aware that his own family, though it called Massachusetts home, was of French Canadian descent, and he was aware, too, that he knew little to nothing about that heritage.
