Orleans District One: Drug, jobs, landfill and school taxes spark debate

NEWPORT — In the Orleans One district of the state House of Representatives, two incumbents presently represent Brownington, Charleston, Derby, Holland, and Morgan.  Representatives Lynn Batchelor of Derby Line and Brian Smith of Derby showed up Monday at a forum held at Newport’s Goodrich Memorial Library to face off against challenger Frank Davis, a Derby Line resident running as an independent.

The three discussed issues in the second of two forums sponsored by the Chronicle and Orleans County Record and moderated by Scott Wheeler, who once occupied the legislative seat now held by Representative Batchelor.
