NEWPORT — Classes start for North Country Union High School ninth-graders on September 3, and many will find classes to be in tents. The remaining grades will start the 2024-2025 school year the following day, September 4.
After testing in the wake of this summer’s efforts to mitigate polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in the school’s B-and-C-wings, produced disappointing results, school officials scrambled to find ways to open school to in-person learning as close to the scheduled first day of classes as possible.
To that end, six tents have been set up on campus, three for administrative offices, and another three for classes. All have power, floors, heat, and other amenities.
