NEWPORT — A large crowd lined up on a sunny Saturday morning at North Country Union High School to see the 161 members of the class of 2022 get diplomas and take the next steps on life’s journey.

Seniors at North Country, like their compatriots at other high schools in Vermont and around the nation, have had an unusual school experience.  Their education was totally, and then partially, disrupted by COVID, a circumstance that might, for lesser youths, left them feeling vulnerable.

Instead, North Country’s students were clearly feeling strong and proud of their accomplishments.
