Learning to live with nature

The basic skills of survival are often taken for granted in the modern world.  Tech and easy access to daily necessities have made getting food and shelter far simpler than for our bygone ancestors.  Primitive methods are less used, but the bushcraft skill-set can come in handy when one is away from the comforts of modern life.  With that in mind, a local outdoorsman recently started sharing his survival knowledge with others.

Devin VanBockler has been living close to nature since he was small.  He recalls growing up with his mother off the beaten path, close to the wilderness.  It was everyday work to split wood and feed a wood stove, used for warmth as well as cooking.  Mr. VanBockler said there was always a sense of self-reliance that came from that lifestyle, one that imparted survival skills to him naturally.
