In Brighton, security camera replacement at town hall

ISLAND POND — At its June 17 meeting the Brighton Select Board decided to install a replacement security camera overlooking Lakeside Park due to vandalism of recreational equipment.

Select board chair Mike Testut brought the matter to town manager Mike Strait when he found out what was happening at the park.  Brighton Recreation is now in its third year of offering free equipment like volleyballs, tennis balls, and basketballs, for residents to use on its courts.  While they, for the most part, have done a great job caring for the equipment, recently, kickballs were “willfully destroyed” according to online postings, and a large number of tennis balls were found in the lake.  All the volleyballs have also gone missing.

“We can’t see what’s going on over there, and that’s something we need to address,” Mr. Strait said.  “It’s not that we didn’t have cameras, but our camera system has gotten old.”

He said in the past, he used the camera to catch several people damaging stuff from the park.  The cost for this camera system didn’t come from the town’s pocket; it was paid for by ….
