EAST BURKE — Around 150 Northeast Kingdom residents crowded the halls of the Burke Mountain Hotel and Conference Center Thursday to discuss how local people can work together to improve their communities.
The Northeast Kingdom Collaborative sponsored the event.
Katherine Sims, the collaborative’s executive director, welcomed those attending the conference and explained the meeting was about developing leadership in Orleans, Essex, and Caledonia counties. “Leaders are not just public officials, or people in positions of power,” she said. “It’s a parent who speaks up at their child’s school, or a group that’s been hosting community meals for decades”..
