Comcast plans alter Westmore discussion

WESTMORE — A special select board meeting held on October 25 to discuss options for using Westmore’s share of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) money started with an unexpected announcement from Erik Townsend, the town’s representative to NEK Broadband.

Mr. Townsend told the more than 40 people who were at the meeting that Comcast had announced it would provide infrastructure expected to be provided by NEK Broadband.  Many attended to express support for putting the town’s ARPA money to help NEK Broadband accelerate connectivity.

“It was a surprise,” Mr. Townsend said.

The Chronicle spoke with Christa Shute, executive director of NEK Broadband, to ask how the sudden change came about…..
