Bluffside Trail completion caps off five years’ work

NEWPORT — Beneath gray and rainy skies with a noticeable breeze, a crowd gathered at the recently built Bluffside Trail to celebrate its completion.  The crowd’s jovial mood was a stark contrast to the weather’s moody backdrop.

The Bluffside Trail connects the Newport bike path with the Beebe Rail Trail, creating a seamless path from downtown Newport to the border with Canada.  The Bluffside portion combines a gravel path running along farm fields with a 560-foot boardwalk across Scott’s Cove.
