A pair of eagles test the waters at Crystal Lake State Park in Barton on December 11. Chronicle reader Ellen Valley shot this photo during a snowstorm as she watched the birds drinking from the lake. She speculates they ate some of the geese found dead on the beach, apparently from avian flu, and were drinking because they felt some ill effects. She reports the eagles are fine and have been spotted flying nearby. Photo by Ellen Valley
