Barton electric should sell to Orleans, group hears

ORLEANS—The committee studying the possibility of buying the Barton Electric Department, got information from the Vermont Public Power Supply Authority (VPPSA) it hopes may convince Barton Trustees to listen to an offer.

Until September 1 the trustees are bound by an exclusivity agreement to negotiate only with Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC).  That agreement has been extended several times and may be again, but if it is not, Orleans is interested in opening discussions, Orleans Administrator John Morley said.
