CRAFTSBURY — Picture this: After a long winter, spring has finally arrived. It’s warm, so you go outside. You’re on your knees, tilling the soil for a garden, or walking along a dirt road as the sun sets. Behind you, a vole runs into the open, a patch of thin grass, or along the road. As the little creature realizes its mistake, and tries to bolt back to the safety offered by tall grass, or along the foundation of a barn, it’s plucked from the earth by a pair of talons and carried away.
