GREATER BARTON ARTS SPRING STUDENT ART SHOW
Greater Barton Arts will hold a Spring Student Art Show opening reception on Friday, May 17 from 6-8 p.m. at 396 Main Street, Barton (across from the post office) Art from area elementary schools and Lake Region Union High School students. BIG TRUCK DAY AND CHILDREN’S FESTIVAL IN DERBY
The Dailey Memorial Library will hold its annual Big Truck Day and Children’s Festival on Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. outside the library.  Kids can explore and climb into dozens of visiting trucks, and numerous games, activity booths, and food options will be featured on the green. The cost is $5 per child, free for adults and babies under 12 months, with a maximum cost of $15 per family. Call 802-766-5063 for more information.

OLD-FASHIONED BARN DANCE IN CRAFTSBURY
Attend an Old-Fashioned Barn Dance, at Brassknocker Farm. CRAFT AND VENDOR EVENT IN NORTH TROY
A craft and vendor event will be held at the North Troy American Legion Post 28 on Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. featuring Jewelry, homemade baked goods, local artwork, and crafts.

CRAFTSBURY PUBLIC LIBRARY PLANT SALE
The Craftsbury Public Library annual plant sale will be held on the library’s side lawn on Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Plant donations will be accepted on Friday, May 17, and Saturday morning from 8-9 a.m.  Any donated plants should be potted, watered, and free of weeds and pests.  The income from this sale goes directly toward covering operating costs of running the library.  For more info, call 802-586-9683 or email [email protected].

COMMUNITY BREAKFAST IN ORLEANS VILLAGE
The Jones Memorial Library will host a community breakfast in Orleans Village on Sunday, May 19, from 7:30-10:30 a.m. at the Municipal Building in Orleans.  All you can eat – $10 Adults, $5 kids under 12, and free for kids 4 and under.

SUNDAY BIRD WALKS IN GREENSBORO
The Greensboro Conservation Commission and Greensboro Free Library are cosponsoring three Sunday morning bird walks led by expert local birders.  In addition to bird identification books, the library has two pairs of binoculars available for loan, and additional pairs may be available to borrow for each walk.  The first walk will begin at the library at 53 Wilson Street in Greensboro at 7 a.m. on Sunday, May 19.  The second walk will meet at 7 a.m. at Highland Lodge on Sunday, May 26. The third and final walk will meet at 7 a.m. at the end of Collier Road (off Rocking Rock Road) on Sunday, June 2.  All the bird walks are free.

LR SPRING JAZZ CONCERT AND SENIOR SHOWCASE
The Lake Region Union High School Music Department presents the annual spring jazz concert and senior showcase performance on Sunday, May 19, 2 p.m., at the Highland Center for the Arts in Greensboro. Admission is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted to benefit the LR Music Activities and Scholarship Fund. COUNTRY ACOUSTIC JAM – A.K.A. PASS THE MIC
Country Acoustic Jam – A.K.A. Pass The Mic will be held on Sunday, May 19, from 1- 4 p.m. at the Burke Community Building, 212 School St. in West Burke. JUST GETTING BY DOCUMENTARY FILM
Just Getting By, a new documentary film by Bess O’Brien focused on Vermonters struggling with food and housing insecurity will play in Newport at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, at the Goodrich Memorial Library on Main Street. Admission is free and sponsored by the Orleans Essex Building Bright Futures Council.

MISSISQUOI VALLEY HISTORICAL ANNUAL
The Missisquoi Valley Historical Annual Meeting to be held at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 at the Historical Society Building at 155 Main Street, in North Troy. All are welcomed to attend.

COBLEIGH LIBRARY PLANT SALE
The Friends of the Cobleigh Library Plant Sale will be held at the library, located at 14 Depot St. in Lyndonville on Friday, May 24, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday, May 25 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Indoor and outdoor plant donations accepted May 21-23 (Tues., Wed., and Thurs.). MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATION
The Orleans County Fair Association celebrates Memorial Day in Roaring Brook Park on Saturday, May 25.  The day generally includes a variety of pulling, Gymkhana, and a demolition derby on Sunday. The F.O.L.K. community yard sale, market and barbecue is on Saturday, May 25 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Lowell Graded School on Route 100 in Lowell. There will be a wide variety of new and used items available for sale from multiple sellers. The barbecue is from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.. DEMOLITION DERBY IN BARTON
A demolition derby will be held at 1 p.m. at the Orleans County Fairgrounds, Roaring Brook Rd. in Barton. Pre run 4-cyl. Last year’s rules apply. Pre run V8- Last year’s rules apply. Strictly 6-cyl. demo running as many heats as there are cars. Winners of 6-cyl. will go in a final with pre run 4-cyl. V8 pre run. One and done – no heats. Only feature. ALBANY METHODIST CHURCH MEMORIAL DAY LUNCHEON
Albany Methodist Church on Rt. 14 in Albany will be having a Memorial Day luncheon at noon, following the Memorial Day Observances in Albany on Monday, May 27. Ham, homemade baked beans, macaroni and potato salads, homemade rolls and pie will be served. Adults $15 and children half price. MONSTER LAB: A WRITING WORKSHOP
On Thursday, May 30, from 4-5:30 p.m. join a Monster Lab: A Writing Workshop with at the J.W. Simpson Memorial Library, located at 1972 East Craftsbury Road in East Craftsbury. PANCAKE BREAKFAST IN WESTMORE
The 18th Annual Pancake Breakfast will be held on Thursday, July 4, from 8-10:30 a.m., at the Fellowship Hall in Westmore. There will be home-made pancakes with fresh strawberries and local maple syrup, homemade scrambled eggs, sausages, coffee, and juice. Donations support refurbishing Fellowship Hall.

HARRY CORROW FREEDOM RUN
Harry Corrow Freedom Run on July 4 is run on the Memphremagog Waterfront Path, the Beebe Spur Bike Path, and Memphremagog Trails. It has been lengthened to include a Half Marathon along with 10-mile 10 km, 5 km, and 2-mile distances. The start and finish at Prouty Beach in Newport.  Watermelon and ice cream are offered up after the run. 20% of registration fees donated to the National Alliance on Mental Illness Vermont to support suicide awareness and prevention efforts. This run is held in conjunction with Newport City’s July 4th Celebration, with activities planned in Gardner Park, culminating in a display of fireworks. SOUPY TALKS IN WESTMORE
On Wednesday, August 7 at 5 p.m. the Westmore Community Church will host an evening of storytelling from two local storytellers, Mark Violette on one of his travels, ‘Bees on Route 66’ and Ted Page on ‘The Good Grandpa.’ Enjoy homemade soups, bread, and beverages with entertaining stories at the Soupy Talks evening. Donations support refurbishing Fellowship Hall.

COMMUNITY MEALS & FOOD SHELVES

ALBANY FOOD SHARE
The Albany Food Share is open every Saturday from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the entrance to the Albany Town Hall, Route 14.  If the increase in the cost of almost everything is affecting your ability to feed your family healthy foods, please know that the Albany Food Share is open to all.  Registration is not required.  If you live in Albany or Irasburg and are physically unable to pick up a Food Share, delivery can be arranged by calling Nadine at 802-755-6703, or Hannah at 802-793-4642. The Albany Food Share is part of the Hardwick Food Pantry and the Vermont Food Bank.

BARTON AND GLOVER SENIOR MEALS

ORLEANS FEDERATED CHURCH
The Orleans Community Food Shelf continues to operate Monday mornings from 8:30-9:30 a.m. with a pre-packed bag distribution. No sign up needed.

ST. MARK’S FOOD SHELF
St. Mark’s Food Shelf, in the Parish House, Second St., Newport, is open every Monday 11:30 to 12:30. It makes no difference where one lives, or financial standing. Anyone in need of food, please come. Each will receive a bag of groceries with additional food offerings if available.

TROY AREA LIONS CLUB COMMUNITY/SENIOR MEALSITE
All are welcome to enjoy the weekly meal at the Westfield Community Center, 59 North Hill Road (at School Street). The meal is served at noon each Thursday. A $4 donation is suggested. To-go meals are available for pickup around 12:15. For pickup orders call 802-744-5466 after 10 a.m. on Thursday.

THE GENNY MEAL PROGRAM
Under the Feed it Forward Fund and Genny Meal program, 20 free meals will be available to patrons of the Genny’s two locations in Albany and Craftsbury. Donations to the Feed it Forward Fund, in the form of a check, can be made out and mailed to Craftsbury General Store, 118 South Craftsbury Road, Craftsbury, VT 05826, with Feed it Forward in the memo line.

CAMPS

GREEN MOUNTAIN CONSERVATION CAMP
The one-week camp programs are held at Lake Bomoseen in Castleton and Buck Lake in Woodbury for 12- to 14-year-olds. Campers participate in hands-on learning about fish and wildlife conservation, ecology, forestry, orienteering, safe firearm and archery techniques, swimming, canoeing, fishing and more. Conservation Camps open June 16 and continue until August 16.  Tuition is $250 for the week, including food, lodging and equipment, and financial assistance is available. AL-ANON – ST. MARK’S, NEWPORT
Troubled by someone else’s drinking or drug use? Attend an Al-Anon meeting. Personal anonymity, as well as confidentiality of members sharing in the program, creates a safe place to get help. The Newport in-person weekly meeting has returned to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church (in the Parish Hall behind church) on Tuesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. at 44 Second Street, Newport.

ALBANY LIBRARY WRITING GROUP
This will be a creative space, where writers support each other in facing down the blank page. The group will be facilitated by assistant librarian and writer Krista Mayer. Teens and adults are both welcome. Writing prompts provided. This group meets from 2-4 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month at the Albany Public Library.

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS
For anyone who thinks they have a problem and would like help, Alcoholics Anonymous is available during this time of COVID-19. BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP – FIRST YEAR’S FIRSTS 
Orleans Essex VNA & Hospice provides a monthly support group for people who have experienced the loss of a loved one over the past year. Facilitated by the OEVNA Chaplain “Mickey” Richards and OEVNA Social Worker Donna Laurin. The group meets the first Tuesday of the month (July will be Wednesday, July 5) from 3-4 p.m., at OEVNA, 46 Lakemont Road in Newport. There is no cost to attend. NCSU TRAVELING PLAYGROUP!
Children ages 0 – 3 years and their caregivers, from any town, are invited to attend playgroups led by the NCSU Early Childhood Paraeducators and community resource staff. Playgroups will take place in the Pre-K classrooms of Coventry Village School and Lowell Graded School, and in the NCSU Family Resource Center in Newport.
