NEWPORT — Those Newport area residents who are missing the taste of Thai food must look to the federal government for the reason, said Mayor Paul Monette at a very abbreviated city council meeting Monday. The co-owners of Dusit Thai Restaurant on Main Street, Panadda Saengsiri (Exzy) and Jintana Thananusak (Jinny) are in the United States on E-2 investment visas.

Such visas allow people who want to invest in and run a business in the U.S. to do so, but they must be renewed every two years. The business owners must return to their country of origin in order to renew their visas.
