Dorothy Blanche Boivin Webster Carabine

Dorothy Blanche Boivin Webster Carabine died in Medford, Massachusetts, on Saturday, January 12, 2013.

She was born in St. Albans on November 2, 1932, the youngest child of Charles Louis Boivin and Germaine Blanchette.  Dorothy’s father died when she was nine years old and her mother, Germaine, raised their seven children.

Uncountable stories have been shared of how everyone got through those early years, and of how close the family has always remained.  Dorothy attended Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans, where she played on a basketball team that won the state championship.

Dorothy married Frederick Henry Webster Sr. on April 14, 1951, in St. Albans.  Although from the “city,” she quickly learned to drive a tractor and milk those cows and she was so proud of that! There wasn’t much Dorothy couldn’t do when she put her mind to it.  Children from this marriage were Frederick Jr., Paulette, Pamela, Anna, Peter, Valerie, Daniel, Sharleen, and Linda.

Dorothy next married William Alexander Carabine Sr. on December 29, 1972, in Boston.  She and “Bill” enjoyed many travels together and loved to visit at the Winthrop Yacht Club, where she worked for many years as bookkeeper.  Her youngest child, William Jr., was born of this marriage.  After nearly 16 years of marriage, Bill passed away. Dorothy always missed him.

Dorothy earned an associate’s degree at Ulster County Community College while the family was living in Coxsackie, New York. She worked for many years as an office manager for Rostine, Inc., in Woburn, Massachusetts.  After Bill died and as retirement neared she made a major life move to Las Vegas and lived with her brother Roger, sister Cecile and their mother, Germaine.  The four of them enjoyed each other’s company for many years.  Dorothy loved to knit — something one would always see her doing while watching television or just talking at home.  She loved to travel and would often talk about the trips she took in those early days with her mother and some of her siblings.  She loved going to bingo and loved Las Vegas and going to the casinos with family members.  And she loved her little dogs, especially Babe, who kept her company these past many years and who passed away just weeks after Dorothy entered the nursing home.

In 2005 Dorothy suffered a major stroke.  After rehabilitation she moved to Richmond, Virginia, to live with her daughter, Valerie Nuckols.  Later on she moved to Winthrop, Massachusetts, and lived with her son, Bill Jr., until this past summer, when she broke her leg and required rehabilitative care.  Valerie, Bill and their families cared for Dorothy with devotion that will always be appreciated.

Dorothy is survived by her sister and dear friend, Pauline Bushey.  Pauline’s children were always close and dear to Dorothy, and she appreciated their love and visits.  She is also survived by seven children, 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  Dorothy was predeceased by her children Frederick Jr., Peter and Linda; by her great-granddaughter McKenzie; her brothers, Roger and Stanley; her sisters, Cecile, Lucille, and Leona; and her sons-in-law Lucien Blodgett, Robert Pettee and John Nuckols.

Dorothy will be cremated and later buried in Winthrop with Bill.
