George LeBlanc
George LeBlanc, 89, died on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at his Orleans home surrounded by family. George was born on September 20, 1935, in St. Barnabe, Quebec, to Ernest and Delia LeBlanc. On February 1, 1954, he married Anne Marie Raboin, who survives him. They were partners for 70 years.
George’s life was defined by his faith in God, his love for his family and his commitment to hard work. He was a dairy farmer for many years, first in Lowell and then in Barton. He retired from farming in 1985, the same year that he and Anne started Orleans Video in downtown Orleans. For the next 13 years, George was a constant presence at the store, so much so that some called it George’s Video. In 1998, George and Anne closed the video store, and he attempted retirement. They spent a few winters as snowbirds in Bushnell, Florida, and took a few other trips. Before long, though, George was looking to go back to work. It wasn’t the paycheck that motivated him as much as his desire to stay busy and get out in the community. He took a part-time job delivering auto parts for Bonds/O’Reilly, and he did so happily until he was 84. Even then, he hated to give up working, but his health issues forced his hand. George had unwavering faith and was a dedicated parishioner of St. Theresa’s Church in Orleans and a faithful supporter of St. Paul’s School. He was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
George will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife, Anne, and his four daughters: Polly (Paul) Duquette, Linda (Cyril) LaPlume, Rita (Guy) LaPlume, and Amy (Mike) Turner. He also leaves behind a son Rene (Lori) LeBlanc and a daughter-in-law Sue LeBlanc. Survivors also include nine grandchildren: Jennifer Burkheimer, Crystal Alexander, Jonathan Duquette, Kathy Clark, Brian LaPlume, Dayna Desrochers, Kelly LeBlanc, Ally Turner, and Morgan Turner. George’s grandkids have graced the family with 15 great-grandchildren thus far, and there may well be more to come.
George also leaves siblings: Norman LeBlanc, Marielle Bonin, Herman LeBlanc, Colombe (John) Colvin, Gynette Manning, Michelle (Larry) Roy, and Andre (Sara) LeBlanc; and siblings-in-law: Rita LeBlanc, Fern Bonneau, Jeannine (Donat) Choquette, Gerard (Pauline) Raboin, Norman (Gerry) Raboin, Rita Raboin and Marie Raboin. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Richard “Ritchie” LeBlanc, grandson Eric LaPlume, and siblings Denise Blouin, Helene Sicotte, and Rejean LeBlanc.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the time of this publication. Please see www.awrichfuneralhomes.com for details. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in George’s memory to St. Paul’s Catholic School, 54 Eastern Avenue, Barton, Vermont 05822.
