Timothy Wayland Cole
Timothy Wayland Cole, 50, died on Monday, October 24, 2011, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Cole was born in Townshend on October 20, 1961, the son of Francis and Elaine (Arms) Cole. He grew up in Brookline and attended schools in Townshend and Brattleboro. He made his home in Wardsboro, Wilmington, Brattleboro, and, finally, Hinsdale, New Hampshire. He was employed in the food service business, most recently for Sodexho at the Brattleboro Retreat and in the kitchen at the Brattleboro Food Co-op.
Mr. Cole was an avid Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia fan. He loved the time he spent with his dad in the woods, hunting and enjoying nature, and he loved spending holidays and other anniversaries with his family in the Northeast Kingdom. He was baptized and joined the Centre Congregational Church in Brattleboro in 2004, and he took great joy in being a part of this church community. Mr. Cole truly appreciated his friends and caregivers who helped him live a productive life. Missy, his cat, was the joy of his life.
Mr. Cole is survived by his parents, Francis and Elaine Cole of Derby; his sister Christine Cole of Newfane; his brother Kevin Cole of Townshend; and his sister Jennifer Cole of Newfane; as well as by numerous relatives. Mr. Cole was predeceased by his brother, Matthew Cole.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, at the Centre Congregational Church, 193 Main Street, in Brattleboro, with the Reverends Carra McFadden and Fred Barker officiating. Following this, there will be a reception and a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery in Townshend.

Leslie Rae Cornell

Leslie Rae Cornell, 53, of Barton, died suddenly on October 22, 2011, in Newport.
She was born on November 19, 1957, in Willows, California, a daughter of Richard W. and Shirley L. (White) Mofield. On March 1, 1983 she married Stuart Cornell who survives her. Mrs. Cornell graduated from Oroville High School in California and also attended Chico State College in California. Mrs. Cornell was a very hard working woman and was the floor manager at the C&C Supermarket in Barton for seven years. She enjoyed making jewelry, gardening, decorative painting, traveling all over the world with her husband while he served in the United States Air Force, and spending time with friends and family which was very important to her. She was a very giving person helping anyone in need.
Mrs. Cornell is survived by her husband, Stuart Cornell of Barton; two children: Aaron J. and Jason R. Cornell of Barton; her parents: Richard and Shirley Mofield of Virginia; a sister, Diane Mofield, and her husband, John Milan, of Virginia; her nieces and nephews: Chris and Melissa Faust, and Melissa and Erik McCoy; and by her great-niece and nephew, Emily and Connor McCoy.
A celebration of her life was held on October 29, in Newport.

Elmer A. Hauver

Elmer A. Hauver, 89, of Newport Center died on October 26, 2011, in Barton.
He was born August 10, 1922, in Newport, a son of  Elmer and Mabel (Goodall) Hauver. On May 24, 1947, he married Lillian Lahar who predeceased him January 28, 2004. December 19, 2005 marked his retirement from Columbia Forest Products after 13 years of service. He attended the East School in Newport and served in the U.S. Army 122nd Medic Corps where he was a cook feeding 500 to 1,000 soldiers. Mr. Hauver held his first job running hoist for the logs at Atlas Plywood, now Columbia Forest Products, for five years. He then was a foreman at H.P. Hood & Son in Newport for almost 30 years until the business closed in 1976. He then retired from the Litton Industries, now Tivoly, after working almost ten years as a tool maker. In 1992 he worked as a janitor for a few months at the Newport Health Care Center. He also painted many homes and businesses in Orleans and the surrounding areas. He joined Columbia on December 22, 1992, as a watchman, a position he held until his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church of Newport, and a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 798. He also enjoyed gardening and playing cards.
He is survived by his children: Jane Provoncha and Mary Hauver, both of Newport; his grandchildren: Sheri Letourneau and her husband, Patrick, of Newport Center, and Clint Provoncha and his wife, Heidi, of Coventry; his great-grandchildren: Storm Lamarche, Raven Letourneau, Clint, Casey, and Corey Provoncha and Christina Stevens; his great-great-granddaughter Caitlin Stevens; his sister-in-law Cecile Colburn of Newport; his brother-in-law Richard Bernier and his wife, Helen, of Coventry; his special friends Barbara Boutin of Derby, and Jim and Connie Turner of Newport; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters: Harold and Earl Hauver, Ethel McClellan, and Dorothy Stevens.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, November 5, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 37 Lake Road, in Newport. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery with military honors.

Leonard “Joe” Lippens

Leonard “Joe” Lippens, 91, of Derby Line died on October 29, 2011, in Newport.
He was born August 22, 1920, in Derby, a son of Edmond and Marie (Moeykens) Lippens. He graduated from Derby Academy in the Class of 1939 and later received an honorable discharge certificate from the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Lippens was a district representative for Citizens Utilities for 34 years and he was a key player in supplying power to many areas in the Northeast Kingdom and to the top of Jay Peak. In his retirement, he was a lister for the town of Derby. His hobbies included snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, carpentry, cutting wood, and he was known for his large, enviable vegetable garden on West Street in Derby. He was a member the American Legion Post 21 of Newport, the Drift Dusters Snowmobile Club, county director of VAST, president of Drift Dusters, and a 69-year member of the Knights of Columbus. His favorite pastimes later in life were playing bridge and storytelling.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruth (Powers) Lippens; his son Bruce Lippens and his wife, Karen, of Derby; his daughter Patricia Hunt and her husband, W. Perry, of Derby Line; his grandchildren: Jennifer (Lippens) Grillo and her husband, Peter, Christopher Hunt and his wife, Monique, and Timothy Hunt and his wife, Taryn; by his great-grandchildren: Sienna Grillo, Jonathan Hunt, Jackson Hunt and Emerson Hunt; and by his siblings: Elaine Reid, Rosalie Guyette, Lucille Meunier, Annette Trombly, Jeanine Martin, and Harold Lippens and their families. He was predeceased by his sister, Madeline Nault.
Funeral services were held November 1 in Newport. Interment followed in Derby Center Cemetery.

Mellissa M. Tinker
Mellissa M. Tinker, 39, died suddenly on Saturday, October 22, 2011, in Newport.
She was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, May 8, 1972, the daughter of Harry Burnham and Phyllis “Penny” (Joyner) Horner.
She and her family moved to Albany in her early years where she was raised. She attended Lake Region Union High School and had taken several college courses.
Ms. Tinker was talented both in music and in artistic venues. She played the flute and oboe and enjoyed music, dancing, decorating, and making jewelry. A very giving person, she will be missed by her many friends as well as her family.
She leaves two sons: Alex Duranleau of Castleton State College and Benjamin Duranleau of Newport; her mother, Penny, and her husband, Bob Horner, of Inverness, Florida; her father, Harry Burnham of Barton; a sister, Paula Cote of Newport; two brothers: Michael Burnham and his friend, Gina Miller, of Holland and Douglas Burnham and wife, Marry, of Irasburg; two step-sisters: Laurie Campbell and her friend, Burt Goodell, of Newport Center and Jackie-Lyn Horner and husband, Clifford Dillon, of Newport Center; a grandmother, Phyllis Joyner of Inverness; and her nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Private services were held for family at the Albany Village Cemetery with Pastor Nate Strong officiating.
