NEWPORT — A few thousand people braved scorching heat on Saturday to mark Newport’s one-hundredth birthday with a grand parade and a slew of other events that will run until Friday, July 6.
Around 100 floats filled Main Street and the Causeway for a procession that lasted more than an hour. Afterward, city residents and guests were invited to enjoy music, games, and food at locations around the city.
