Landfill expansion seems to be on track

COVENTRY — Despite complaints about odor from neighbors and concerns about the idea of expanding the landfill, New England Waste Services of Vermont’s request for permission to add another 51-acre cell to its Coventry landfill seems to be on track. New England Waste Services of Vermont is owned by Casella Waste Management of Rutland.

Officials from the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation’s solid waste program have already given preliminary approval to the plan, which would increase the landfill’s life expectancy by around 22 years at the present rate of dumping.
