Kingdom’s Bounty; a sustainable, eclectic, edible guide to Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, by Bethany M. Dunbar, with an introduction by Bill McKibben, published by Umbrage Editions 2012, soft cover, 128 pages. Available to Chronicle readers at a discounted rate of $19, (plus $9 shipping and handling).

Kingdom’s Bounty, just published by Umbrage Editions, goes beyond a simple factual guide to being a real celebration of the people, community and landscapes of the area.  As one of the people profiled in this book (Elizabeth Everts of Too Little Farm), succinctly summed it up about locally grown food, “It has a story and a name behind it.  It has a person.  It has a place.”  Ms. Dunbar uses her journalistic skills to bring out the human side of numerous hardworking entrepreneurs and artisans who are fulfilling their personal vision of a better life and an excellent product, all of whom have put the Northeast Kingdom on the national map as being in the forefront of the local, organic, healthy food movement.”  — David Rodgers, the Chronicle.

Note from the author:  The link below goes to a video – an interview Scott Wheeler did with me for his show, NEK Voice, on NEK TV.  Scott is a Chronicle “alumni” as is the book’s publisher, Nan Richardson, who owns Umbrage Editions in Brooklyn and spends part of each year in Barton.  Nan wrote for the Chronicle when she was a teenager.  Thanks Scott!  Scott was a great news man and went on write his own books, serve in the Legislature and to start a magazine about local history, Vermont’s Northland Journal.
