Margaret H. Boomer
Margaret H. Boomer, 84, died on July 16, 2011, in Newport.  She was born February 27, 1927, in Keene, New Hampshire, a daughter of Hugh and Florence (White) Malloy.
On January 17, 1950, she married Donald W. Boomer who predeceased her on February 22, 2010.
During her lifetime, she was a self-employed hairdresser and owner of Peggy’s Beauty Shop in Bellows Falls.
Mrs. Boomer was very devoted to her husband and family.  She and her family enjoyed camping and going to the ocean.
She is survived by her children:  Donald Boomer and his wife, Wanda, of Irasburg, Deborah Lowe and her husband, Richard Lobdell, of Chester, and Diane Laware and her companion, Chris Gramling, of Sharon; by the following grandchildren:  Laura Houle and her husband, Denis, of Irasburg, David Boomer and his wife, Amy, of Irasburg, Robert Lowe and his wife, Michelle, of Bellows Falls, Heidi Ploof and her husband, Jeff, of Sharon, Jessica Wright of Hartland, and Heath Laware of Royalton; by nine great-grandchildren,  She was predeceased by her brother Robert Malloy, MIA, from the Korean War.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home at 4670 Darling Hill Road in Newport with the Reverend Richard Whitehill officiating.  Interment will follow in Irasburg Cemetery.

Diane Carter

Diane Carter, 57, of Barton died in Lebanon, New Hampshire, on Saturday, July 9, 2011, after a long illness.
She was born in Newport on January 30, 1954, a daughter of Morris and Shirley (Wilcox) Carter.
Ms. Carter spent most of her time in the Stowe and Morrisville area before moving to Barton a short time ago.  She graduated from Johnson State College and received her master of arts degree from Goddard College.  She was employed at Vermont Sports Today, C.H. Dana Company, and most recently as a self-employed freelance writer.
She had her three dogs:  Zack, Wagger, and Dodger, as well as her cat Wednesday that she loved dearly and considered her “babies.”  She always enjoyed fishing, biking, being outdoors, and caring for horses.  She was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan and watched and listened to as many games as she could regardless of air time.
Ms. Carter is survived by her brothers:  Jim and his wife, Phyllis, of Charleston and Roger and his wife, Therese, of Massachusetts, as well as by aunts, nieces, and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at the North Troy Village Cemetery on Saturday, July 23, at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Richard Whitehill officiating.

Geraldine “Gerry” Chaput
After a long illness, Geraldine “Gerry” Chaput, 78, of Derby Line, died on July 14, 2011.
She was born September 18, 1932, in Johnson, a daughter of Harold and Catherine (Brigham) Lanpher.
Mrs. Chaput graduated from Newport High School.  On June 20, 1953, she married Fernand Chaput who predeceased her on January 18, 2009.
Mrs. Chaput was a clerk for the former Ames Department Store in Derby for many years.  Her hobbies included traveling, needlework, and working in her flower garden.
She is survived by her mother, Catherine Hilliker, of Derby; by two children:  Debra Chaput of Orleans and Randall Chaput of Boston, Massachusetts; by her brother Harold Lanpher Jr. of Sparks, Nevada; her sister Patricia Foster of The Dalles, Oregon; by stepbrother Stephen Hilliker of Japan; stepsister Hazel Knox and her husband, Charles, of West Lynn, Oregon; and by sisters-in-law, many cousins, nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her sister-in-law Reba Lanpher, brother-in-law Fred Foster, and several brothers and sisters-in-law from Mr. Chaput’s family.
A graveside service was held on  July 19 at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport with the Reverend Fred Barker officiating.

Juliette B. Dane

Juliette B. Dane, 96, of Newport died on July 16, 2011, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born June 19, 1915, in Derby, a daughter of George and Lillian (Collins) Morrill.  On September 30, 1946, she married Oliver Dane who predeceased her in 1986.
Mrs. Dane was employed by the former Labounty’s Jewelry Store, the former Petco Mini Mart, and she was assistant manager of the former M.H. Fisherman Store, all of Newport.  She was also employed by the former Forest Hills Department Store in Newport.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Newport and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #798 Auxiliary of Newport.
She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and spending time with her family during the holidays.  She crocheted many afghans which she gave to her family.
She is survived by her children:  Cheryl Keenan of West Charleston, Ronald O. Dane and his wife, Phyllis, of Derby, and Roger A. Dane of Newport; by two grandchildren:  Scott Keenan and his wife, Deanna, of Morgan, and Paula Keenan and her companion, Todd Crowe, of Morgan; by seven great-grandchildren:  Alisha, Ashley, Cody, Hady, Jesse, Morgan, and Tucker; by two great-great-grandchildren:  Logan and Donny; and by several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Dean Morrill, and by her sister Theresa Mossa.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport where a Mass will be celebrated.  Interment will follow in the Derby Center Cemetery.

Ruby P. (Stevens) Lidback
Ruby P. (Stevens) Lidback, 68, of Northwood, New Hampshire, and formerly of Westmore, died on May 4 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, New Hampshire, in the company of her loving husband of 45 years, Keith W. Lidback.
After many years of ailments, she finally found peace at 3:05 a.m. that day.  She was born on September 23, 1943, in Barre to the late Millard and Martha (McCarty) Stevens.
The oldest of three children, Mrs. Lidback grew up on a farm in Westmore with her brother David “Hugh” and her sister Faye.  She graduated from Barton Academy and from the Elliott School of Nursing in Keene, New Hampshire, obtaining her license as a registered nurse.
Mrs. Lidback loved the outdoors and Vermont. She also loved her dogs and had many as a part of the family throughout her life.  She was an avid reader, crafter and painter, doing many drawings and paintings with her sister Faye.
Members of Mrs. Lidback’s family include her husband, Keith W. Lidback, of Northwood, New Hampshire; her son Adam Lidback and his wife, Joanna, of Westmore; her daughter Rebekah DeMaio of New Durham, New Hampshire; four and one-half grandchildren:  Bethany Hestbeck of Washington, Noah, Abraham and Katie DeMaio of New Durham, and one is on the way; her brother David Stevens and his wife, Juliette, of Westmore; her sister Faye Willey and her husband, Larry, of Barton; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson Isaiah DeMaio.
A memorial service was held on May 10 at the Bow Lake Baptist Church in Strafford, New Hampshire.  A funeral service was held on July 16 at the Westmore Community Church in Westmore with a graveside committal service following at the Lakeview Cemetery in Westmore.
Pauline Marguerite (Chaloux) Marquis

Pauline Marguerite (Chaloux) Marquis, 82, died peacefully at her home in Newport on July 15, 2011, after a long illness.
Mrs. Marquis was born in St. Edwidge, Canada, on July 4, 1929, a daughter of Hector and Florida Sylvain Chaloux.
In 1949 she immigrated to the U.S.  She married Gerard Adrien Marquis on October 16, 1948, and they had seven children.
In 1950 Mr. and Mrs. Marquis began a long business partnership by purchasing a dairy farm in Canaan.  They also had a logging business.  In 1960 they moved the family to another dairy farm in Newport Center.  They retired from farming in 1973 and moved to Newport.
Mrs. Marquis lost her husband of 32 years to cancer in 1980.  That was her greatest sorrow along with the tragic death of their first-born son, Denis, in 1972, shortly after he came back from his Army tour of duty.
She then found employment with McDonald’s where she worked until her retirement in 2006 after 25 years of service.
She was a hard worker and will be remembered in the community by many as the very friendly and helpful little French lady.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Star of the Sea parish in Newport since 1960 and was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella for over 25 years.  She enjoyed cooking and gardening, but her greatest joy was the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  On July 28, 2010, her great-great-granddaughter Madison, was born on what would have been Denis’ (Madison’s great-grandfather) sixty-first birthday.
Mrs. Marquis is survived by her children:  Venise and Richard Sevigny of Derby, Real and Caroline Marquis of Newport Center, Suzanne and Bernard Patenaude of East Fairfield, Bruno and Karen Marquis of Newport, Leo and Linda Marquis of Gorham, Maine, Marielle and Mark Demuth of Johnson, and special daughter-in-law Joanne and her husband, Leonard Hammond, of Newport Center; by her grandchildren:  Michael, Jody, Jason, Matthew and Karen, Danielle, Nicole, Marc and Julie, Aaron and Laurie, Corey and Christopher, Nathan and Scott, Bradley and Jeremy; by her great-grandchildren:  Justin, Andrew, Spencer, Samantha, Adam, Bryanne, Shane, Emma, Hannah, Libby, Josie, Christopher, Brent, Riley, Brody, Hunter, Cody, Logan, Adrianna, Mason, Jacob, Kadence, Camden, Adrian, Adam, Asa, Aidan, McKenna, Cecelia, Griffin, and Brooke; by her great-great-granddaughter Madison;  by her three sisters:  Rita Benoit of Barre, Lucille Provost of Barre, and Gisele Fontaine of Williston; by one brother, Maurice Chaloux, of Barre; and by over 100 nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by Gerard Marquis in 1980 at the age of 58; by her son Denis Marquis in 1972 at the age of 23; by great-granddaughter Elaina Rachel Marquis as a newborn infant; by her brothers Gerard Chaloux, Rene Chaloux, and Sylva Chaloux; and by her sisters Therese Ratte and Madelaine Allen.
Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport on July 19 where a Mass was celebrated.  Interment followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Lawrence E. Maxwell

Lawrence E. Maxwell, 78, formerly of Lake Placid, New York, died on July 8, 2011, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, New York, with his son by his side.
Born in Newport on September 8, 1932, he was a son of Roger and Mary (Joslyn) Maxwell.
Upon graduating from Orleans High School, Mr. Maxwell enlisted in the U.S. Army.  After serving two years, he returned to Vermont where he was employed at Bruneau’s sawmill and then later at Ethan Allen Manufacturing.  In 1973 he relocated with his family to Lake Placid, New York, to work for Henry Uihlein at Heaven Hill Farm until his retirement.  After retiring, he worked part-time at Last Chance Ranch and for Norman Aamodt.
Mr. Maxwell was well known for his baseball skills while in high school and later while playing for local ball teams.  He also coached Little League in Irasburg, boasting often of their winning record.  He enjoyed following his son Larry’s athletic accomplishments in baseball and golf.  He was also an avid lifelong Red Sox fan, having supported the team many times at Fenway.  When not at Fenway, he would attend Montreal Expo games sitting in his front row seat in right field at Jarry Park where he would talk ball with the players and managers, Gil Hodges being just one of his favorites in the National League.  Mr. Maxwell was also extremely proud of his family, especially his brother Maurice’s very successful dairy farm in Coventry where he helped out whenever he could.
He is survived by his son Lawrence P. “ Larry” Maxwell and his companion, Deborah Lester, of Gabriels, New York; his former wife, Sheila Sisco, of Derby; six brothers and sisters:  Maurice Maxwell and wife, Lois, of Newport, Lodoiska Kingsbury and her husband, Homer, of Bradford, Carl (Joe) Maxwell and his wife, Veanne, of Waits River, Judy Bupp and her husband, Ken, of Bedminster, Pennsylvania, Juanita French of Bradford, and Barbara Jean Maxwell of Elyria, Ohio; three sisters-in-law:  Jane, Jeanette and Margaret Maxwell; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father and mother; four brothers and one sister-in-law, Alton, Dale, Darrell and Charles; and his wife, Dorothy Maxwell.
Funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family.

Rodney W. Nichols

Rodney W. Nichols, 81, of Brownington died on July 16, 2011, in Barton.
He was born December 20, 1929, in Charleston, a son of Howard and Bertha (Lasond) Nichols.  He married Dorothy Iris Green who predeceased him.
Mr. Nichols was a case press operator for Ethan Allen Manufacturing for 33 years.
He loved to snowmobile, kayak, fish, and camp with his wife, Iris.  Sonya Perkins was a caregiver for Rodney for several weeks and he was very proud and appreciative of all her efforts.
He is survived by two sons:  Steve Nichols and his companion, Sylvie Perkins, of Irasburg, and Wayne Nichols and his wife, Gail, of Arkansas; by his grandchildren:  Scott Nichols and his wife, Brianne, of Brownington, Jason, Jeremy, Jesse and Christy Nichols, Sonya and her companion, Robbie Cote, of Irasburg, and Michelle Perkins and her companion, Jay Powers, of Irasburg; by several great-grandchildren, for whom he had great pride and love; by his brother Rendall Nichols and his wife, Virginia, of Derby; by his sisters:  Edith Cargill and her husband, Lyle, of Derby, Marjorie Crouss of Connecticut, Ruth Sidel and her companion, Charlie, of Vermont; and by several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his son Tom and by Maggie Green.
A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, at the Brownington Village Cemetery with Pastor George Lawson officiating.

Claude Poginy

Claude Poginy, 68, a lifelong resident of Barton, died peacefully at home on July 16, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on December 4, 1942, in Barton, a son of the late Leon and Laura (Poutre) Poginy.
After 20 years of farming, he semi-retired and was employed by NCMC and the Barton Chamber of Commerce as head of maintenance.  He was an active member of the community, serving as director of concessions for the Orleans County Fair, a former member of the Barton Fire Department, and a zoning officer for the town of Barton for seven years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Pam (Rives) Poginy; his sons and their wives: Randy and Gigi Poginy of Barton and Gary and Bonnie Poginy of Irasburg; by six grandchildren:  Jamie Royer, Becca Poginy, Chelsea and Whitney Poginy, Tyler Poginy, and Mikalah Poginy; by his sisters:  Dolores Rome of Westmore, Doria Cotter, and her husband, Tom, and Mariette Poginy, all of Greenfield, Massachusetts; by sister-in-law Barbara Poginy of Lyndonville; his brothers Rosaire Poginy and his wife, Kathy, of Barton, Peter Poginy and his wife, Donna, of Barton, Paul Poginy and his wife, June, of Seattle, Washington, John Poginy of Flagstaff, Arizona, and Denis Poginy, and his wife, Vickie, of Glover; and by numerous loving nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brothers Norman Poginy and Andre Poginy and by his sister Sr. Mary Angela (Jeanine Poginy).
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at St. Paul’s Church in Barton at 11 a.m. on Wednesday July 20, where a Mass will be celebrated.

Michael David Randall Sr.

Michael David Randall Sr., 57, of Derby Line died on July 16, 2011, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 19, 1953, in Newport, a son of Gertrude (Goulding) Place.  On May 5, 1973, he married Anne Marie Cote who survives him.
Mr. Randall was a fuel truck driver for Fred’s Plumbing and Heating in Derby.  He loved his family and his grandchildren.  He would always be asking them, do you want to go for a four-wheeler ride?  Mr. Randall always wanted to buy Michaela a bunny, but for some reason her father said it would end up being stew.  Michaela, Kollin, Izzy and Nicholas loved their Pepere.  Mr. Randall was very proud of this three sons and always wanted the best for them.  He loved his job, his bike and his “tractor.”
Mr. Randall was his happiest keeping busy.  He was always looking for projects around the house and yard and never happy being idle.  His mind was always looking for his next project before the one he was working on was even completed.  Roger Aiken was more than just a brother-in-law to him.  He was a special and dear friend who was always there for him, no matter what it was he needed.  Mr. Aiken was a great help to him during the last few months.  His hobbies included riding his motorcycle, and four-wheeling.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Marie Randall, of Derby Line; his children:  Michael Randall Jr., and his wife, Kelly, of Charleston, Jedediah Randall of South Burlington, and Jacob Randall and his wife, Amy, of Bossier City, Louisiana; by his grandchildren:  Michaela, Kollin, Isabelle, and Nicholas; by his sisters and brothers:  Evelyn Adams and her husband, Paul, of Milford, New Hampshire, Marion Arel and her husband, Gerard, of Connecticut, Marie Randall and her companion, John, of Westfield, Yvonne Hinton of Troy, Darlene Aiken and her husband, Roger, of Newport Center, Charlie Randall and his wife, Cecile, of Coventry, Jerry Randall and his wife, Barbara, of Jay, and Ralph Randall and his wife, Marilyn, of North Troy; by his brother-in-law Rene Brochu of Newport Center; and by several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his mother, Gertude Place, by infant daughter Linda Lee Randall in 1974, and by a sister-in-law Madeleine Brochu.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Derby Line where a Mass will be celebrated.  Interment will follow in St. Edward’s Cemetery.

Marie Franchesca Sabino
Marie Franchesca Sabino, 56, of Island Pond, died on July 8 in Bethel in the arms of her beloved husband of two years, Michael Louis Roy.
She was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, and spent a substantial amount of time growing up in various parts of the United States and Europe due to her father’s career in the Air Force.
Ms. Sabino was a very life-giving person who enjoyed giving and receiving flowers, cooking, quality time with her husband, little children, gardening, outdoor activities, walking, a good joke, a good belly laugh, and keeping a clean house.  She was affiliated with the Catholic Church in Bethel.
Edward Hartley Seadale
Dr. Edward Hartley Seadale, 84, of Newfield, Maine, died suddenly at his home on July 2, 2011.
Dr. Seadale was born on April 26, 1927, in New York, New York.
In 1944, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the Cadet Naval Air Program of the U.S. Naval Air Force where he served to the end of World War II. With the start of the Korean War, he was recalled back to the pilot training program of the U.S. Air Force.
Dr. Seadale was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts where he became a bacteriologist-virologist research instructor, publishing many research papers.  In 1956, he entered McGill University, Faculty of Dentistry, in Montreal, Quebec.  He practiced dentistry for 30 years in Cohasset, Massachusetts.  During his practice he served as the president of the New England Society of Clinical Hypnosis.  He was also a brother at the Amherst, Massachusetts, Masonic Lodge, and a member of the American Legion.
Dr. Seadale is survived by his wife, Anne Chapman Seadale, his best friend with whom he shared 57 passionate years in a marriage of complete mutual devotion, compassion and unconditional love.  Dr. and Mrs. Seadale enjoyed many years of round dancing with many close and cherished friends as members of The B&B Dancers, Let’s Dance, and Mix ’n’ Mingle Square Dance Club.  Dr. Seadale often joked that he married the farmer’s daughter but he wasn’t a farmer.  However, he took great pleasure in tending his orchids.
In recent years, during frequent visits to Barton, Dr. Seadale had made numerous fond acquaintances over coffee at the lunch counter in The Parson’s Corner restaurant.
Dr. Seadale is also survived by his son Edward H. Seadale Jr. and his wife, Lorie, owners of The Parson’s Corner, of Barton; his daughter Lisa Healy of Franklin, Massachusetts; his pride and joy, granddaughter Kristen T. Seadale of Newark; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dr. Seadale was predeceased by his parents, Gunner and Kathleen Seadale, and his brother Charles Seadale of West Palm Beach, Florida.
A funeral service was held on July 7 at the Carll-Heald and Black Funeral Home in Springvale, Maine.
Interment will be at a later date on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts.

Edward Louis Verge

Edward Louis Verge, 69, of Island Pond died peacefully on July 3, 2011, at North Country Hospital in Newport.
Mr. Verge was born in St. Johnsbury on December 19, 1941, a son of Napoleon L. and Helen M. (Lavature) Verge.
Mr. Verge attended St. Johnsbury schools and, upon graduating from St. Johnsbury Trade School in 1959, was awarded a job at General Electric.  Several years later he accepted employment at Essex Arms in Island Pond where he developed excellent machine skills and attention to detail.  Because of this he became known as an excellent gunsmith and for many years ran a gun business in Island Pond known as Lock, Stock and Barrel.
Later Mr. Verge worked for the railroad but his one real love was repairing and customizing guns.  Many of his friends can testify that he was an expert rifle and pistol shot and could tune a gun to shoot more accurately than it would from the factory.
Mr. Verge’s loves in life were family, friends, hunting, fishing and guns.  He was proud of his Native American heritage which gave him great respect for all living things.  Over the years he enjoyed tracing his heritage here in Vermont.  His friends at Paul’s camp can tell stories about his ability to get around the woods and his ability to locate wildlife.
He loved children and enjoyed teaching them how to respect nature, safe gun handling, gun care, marksmanship and the simpler things in life such as gardening and making birdhouses.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine Glasson; his seven children:  Edward Allen of Lyndonville, Todd and his wife, Gloria of Raleigh, North Carolina, Daniel of St. Johnsbury, Aaron and his wife, Billie, of Island Pond, Kimberly of Sutton, Adam and his wife, Michele, of Island Pond, Angelina Hobbowicz and her husband, George, of Montgomery, Texas; by Lorraine’s three children:  Danielle Hunt and her husband, David of Derby Line, Terri of Morrisville, and Diana Kapusta of Morrisville; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandson; his five siblings:  David and his wife, Doris, of Danville, Poley and his wife, Cheryl, of Danville, Jaque Verge of Gilman, Donna and her husband, Fred Keenan, of Danville, and Paula Verge of Sandown, New Hampshire.  He was predeceased by his parents and most recently his sister Genie of Littleton, New Hampshire.
Mr. Verge will be deeply missed by his family and friends but his memory will always be carried in the hearts of those who knew him.

Mary Jane Theresa Willis, 78, of Lowell, died on July 16, 2011, in Newport.
She was born October 15, 1932, in Montgomery, a daughter of Peter and Mellissa (Wright) Boucher.  On April 10, 1950, she married Clifton Don “Tip” Willis Sr. who predeceased her on July 10, 2006.
She was a member of St. Ignatius Church in Lowell where she taught catechism and kinder school. She was a great grandma who opened her house to all.  She was a great cook and she made sure everyone had plenty to eat, and no one left hungry.
Mrs. Willis is survived by her children:  Clifton Don Willis Jr. and his wife, Lorelei, of Troy, Rose Marie Shedd and her husband, Dean, of Hyde Park, Pamela Lontine and her companion, Patrick Malaney, of Lowell, Gail Girard of Lowell, and Melissa Pion and her husband, Norman, of Lowell; by her grandchildren:  Erik, Trevor, Dean, Heidi, Evan, Teiah, Nicole, Mary, Lisa, Marc, and Corey; by 11 great-grandchildren; by her brothers Maurice Boucher of Fairfax, and Henry Boucher and his wife, Betty, of Cuddybackville, New York; by numerous nieces and nephews; and by her cat, Baby Boy Kitty, who she loved.  She was predeceased by a grandson, Timothy Pion, and by ten brothers and sisters.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday July 20, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home at 4670 Darling Hill Road in Newport.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, at St. Ignatius Church in Lowell with the Reverend Henry Mlinganisa celebrating a Mass.  Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery in Lowell.   Then there will be a reception at the St. Ignatius Parish Hall.
