Dorothy N. Baxendale, 90, of North Troy formerly of Louisa, Virginia, died on January 31, 2011, in Newport.
She was born March 29, 1920, in New Jersey the daughter of Nels and Laura (Ulfstam) Nelson.
In 1944 she married Lester H. Baxendale who predeceased her in 1995 after more than 50 years of marriage.
During her lifetime she proudly worked for the Bell Telephone Company and for Arlington Printers and Stationers in Arlington, Virginia. Her hobbies included knitting, sewing, gardening, yard sales, antiquing, and feeding the birds. She especially loved being with her family, traveling, hummingbirds, and living on the water. She was a daily example of grace, dignity, kindness, warmth, joy in life, compassion, spunk, humor, independence, and strength of spirit. We were so blessed by her life and her presence in our lives.
She is survived by her daughters: Holly S. Wyllie and her husband, James, of North Troy, and Judith Sutherland of Charlottsville, Virginia; by three grandchildren: Wesley Siler and his wife, Nessie, Heather and Nicholas Sutherland; by three stepgrandchildren: Andrew Wyllie, Benjamin Wyllie and his wife, Tyler, and Betsy Wyllie Johnson and her husband, Matt; and by several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved son Jon N. Baxendale, in 2002.
Services will be held at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Louisa at the convenience of the family.

Gail A. Besaw
Gail A. Besaw, 66, of Morgan died on February 4, 2011, in Newport.
She was born December 6, 1944, in Island Pond, a daughter of Roger and Bernadine (Puyer) Germain.
On September 25, 1965, she married Roland Besaw who survives her.
Mrs. Besaw was a nurse at North Country Hospital in Newport for several years. She also taught anatomy and physiology at Community College of Vermont for two years. Her hobbies included caring for horses, cross-stitching, doing trivia and word games, and she was a Mary Kay consultant.
She is survived by her husband, Roland, of Morgan; by her three children: Laurie Wilson and her husband, Steve, of Sylva, North Carolina, Kelly Rockwell of Eastover, North Carolina, and Michael Besaw and his wife, Jenny, of Ellington, Connecticut; by five grandchildren: Kendall, Connor, Chase, Logan, and Hunter; by her best friend, Theresa Lafoe, of Morgan; by her aunt and uncle Bunnie and Bernard Puyer of Derby; by her sister Judy Moulton and her husband, Ronald, of East Charleston; by nieces and nephews; and by her caregivers Jessica Lyon of Morgan and Holly Poor of St. Johnsbury.
Graveside services will be held in the spring in Clark Cemetery in Morgan.

Romeo Bonin
Romeo J. Bonin, 73, of Ayer’s Cliff, Quebec, died on January 26, 2011, in Sherbrooke, Quebec.
He was born June 4, 1937, a son of Wilfred and Rosa (Dauphin) Bonin.
He was very active in his church, and loved helping other people.
He leaves behind six brothers: Jean-Claude and, his wife, Ghislaine, of Barre, Leopold and his wife, Gervaise, of Southington, Connecticut, Yves and his wife, Huguette, of Danville, Gerard and his wife, Angela, of Newport Center, Antonio and his wife, Solange, of Troy, and Armand and his wife, Doris, of Newport Center; also his nephews Glenn and Marc Bonin from this area; nieces Jeanne Bonin, Suzan Bonin Fisk, and Audrey Bonin Lafleur. From Canada he leaves a brother-in-law, Edgar Jardy, from Ayer’s Cliff; two sisters-in-law, Antoinette Bonin from Granby, and Pauline Marcotte Bonin from Magog; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by three sisters, Simone, Leontine, and Sister Anita Bonin; and by two brothers, Laureat and Joseph (Joe) Bonin.
Funeral services were held at the Ayer’s Cliff Catholic Church.
Edward Malinowski
Edward Malinowski, 89, died on January 18, 2011, in Santa Barbara, California.
He was born in Massachusetts on October 24, 1920.
He and his wife, Rose, who died in May of 2010, lived many happy years in Morgan Center.· They were both longtime members of the Orleans Country Club.
Survivors include his daughter, Marge Feil and her husband, Guenther, of Las Vegas, Nevada; his son Peter Malinowski and his wife, Teri, of Santa Barbara; two granddaughters, Susan Henrichs and Diane Hughes; and great-granddaughter Isabelle Hughes, all of Santa Barbara.
Dorothy (Starr) Westerberg
Dorothy (Starr) Westerberg of North Troy died on February 3, 2011.
She was born August 27, 1922, in Troy to George and Hazel Hardy Starr. She was raised on a dairy farm in North Troy.
She married Ernest T. Westerberg of Simsbury, Connecticut, on May 11, 1944, in Lyndonville. They lived in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and Syracuse, New York, before returning to Vermont in the 1950s.
Mrs. Westerberg is survived by her daughter Susan W. Pekala and husband Stanley of Danville; granddaughter Lynne Pekala Manley and her husband, James, of Milton; grandson Joseph Pekala and his wife, Kristin, of Lyme, New Hampshire; and five great-grandchildren: Owen Ernest Manley, Katherine Starr Manley, Maisy Bain Pekala, Ingrid Elizabeth Pekala, and Burke Oden Pekala; by her brother Durward Starr and his wife, Lorraine, of North Troy; her devoted sister Ida Cadieux and her husband, John, of Newport; her sister-in-law Ila Starr of North Troy; by 30 nieces and nephews; and by special family friend Denise Pigeon. Mrs. Westerberg was predeceased by her husband, Ernest, of 54 years; infant son Ernest II, her sister Barbara Lynch and her husband, Jack, of Lyndonville; her brother Robert Starr and his wife, Muriel; her brothers Jack and Urban Starr and Urban’s wife, Jean; by nephew Jay Starr; and niece Barbara Jean Cadieux.
Mrs. Westerberg worked for the U. S. Postal Service from 1954 to 1986 and was postmaster in North Troy from 1980 to 1986. She was active in many organization including the North Troy Alumni Association, the Rand Memorial Library, the North Troy United Church, and the North Troy Historical Society.
Mrs. Westerberg loved the outdoors. She enjoyed brook trout fishing, hiking, and gardening. She was a lifelong antique and stamp collector. She enjoyed local sports, and also her beloved Red Sox.
She and her husband opened a ski lodge in the early days of Jay Peak Ski Area. They remained in touch with several of their former guests through the years. In the summer, they enjoyed their cottage at Eagle Point on Lake Memphremagog. Mrs. Westerberg loved politics and participated in many Democratic functions. She took great pride in her extended family. She attended the Starr family reunion in Jay on July 18, 2009 along with 175 relatives.
A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church, in North Troy with Rick Shover officiating, on Saturday, February 12, at 11 a.m. There will be no calling hours. A reception will follow the service at the American Legion Hall on Dominion Avenue in North Troy.
Spring interment will be held at the North Troy Village Cemetery. A date has not been announced.

Wayne S. Whittemore
Wayne S. Whittemore, 70, of North Troy died on February 2, 2011, in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
He was born April 9, 1940, in Orleans, a son of Clyde and Phyllis (Smith) Whittemore.
In 1960 he entered the U.S Air Force and was stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was honorably discharged in 1964.
On May 27, 1961, he married Gloria R. Duquette who survives him.
Mr. Whittemore graduated from Orleans High School and later from Champlain College in Burlington where he received an associates degree. He was owner and operator of A Cleaner Globe Dry Cleaning Company in St. Johnsbury, retiring in 2007.
He also was employed by Columbia Forest Products of Newport for 22 years. He and the Burns family started the B&W snack bar in Orleans during the late 1960s.
Mr. Whittemore was a big Boston Celtics fan and he attended many games at Boston Gardens. He loved tractor pulling at the Barton fair and enjoyed riding his John Deere tractor. His other hobbies included collecting antique tractors and making birdhouses.
He volunteered at the Newport Chamber of Commerce and the Irasburg Church fairs. He was very devoted to the care of his beloved wife, Gloria.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria; by his three children: Lance Whittemore and his wife, Jane, of Powhatan, Virginia, Lisa Sullivan and her husband, Chris, of Montgomery, and Laurie Grenon and her husband, Bob, of North Troy; and by numerous cousins and extended family members.
Funeral services were held February 5 at the Orleans Federated Church in Orleans with the Reverend Christina Findlay officiating. A potluck lunch followed at the Orleans American Legion. Spring interment in the Irasburg cemetery.

Fay A. Young
Fay A. Young, 80, of Lyndon, died peacefully Monday morning, January 31, 2011, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
He was born November 22, 1930, in Lyndon, a son of Fay and Carrie (Hodges) Young.
He graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1948 and from the Vermont School of Agriculture in Randolph Center in 1949.
On September 16, 1957, he married Esther Coffey.· He was a dairy farmer in Lyndon until 1966.· He then became a full-time real estate broker for United Real Estate and was still active up until his death.
He was a founding member of the Vermont and New Hampshire Christmas Tree Association, a member of the Landowners Steering Committee, a director for Lyndonville Savings Bank, a member of the Northeast Kingdom Skeet Club, and the Lyndon Historical Society.· He was an avid supporter of private property owner rights.
Mr. Young’s family and his genealogy were always important to him.· He was active in the Scottish clan Young.· He is remembered as an avid fisherman, gardener, and at every Easter time he made sugar on snow for his entire family.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Esther Young, of Lyndon (P O. Box 1128, Lyndonville, Vermont 05851); five sons:· Michael Young and his wife, Jaye, of Concord, Steve Young and his wife, Robin, of Lyndon, Allen Young and his wife, Tami, of Lyndon, Mark Young of East Hampton, Massachusetts, and Matt Young and his wife, Tiffany, of Lyndon; a daughter, Julie Murphy, and her husband, Peter, of St. Johnsbury; by 22 grandchildren who loved Grampie dearly; several cousins; and his wife’s family with whom he was quite close.· He was predeceased by his parents.
Funeral services were held on February 5 at the Lyndonville United Methodist Church with the Reverend Barbara Dwyer officiating.· Burial in Lyndon Center Cemetery is planned for Saturday, May 28, at 11 a.m.
