Sheila (Goss) Davis

Sheila (Goss) Davis, 70, of Lyndonville died on Monday, January 23, 2012, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, surrounded by her family, after suffering a severe stroke.
She was born on February 10, 1941, in Burlington, the daughter of Burns and Katherine (Hately) Goss. She was a 1959 graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy.
She was married to Eugene Carl Davis who predeceased her on April 25, 1969.
Following two years of  college, she was employed by the Caledonia County Department of Social Services until 1962, when she began her family. While raising her family, she was a Tupperware dealer and host in the area. After the family was raised, she worked for Murphy’s Electric for several years and for the past 15 years she was employed by Northern Petroleum (Dead River).
Her pastimes included knitting, going on bus tours, traveling with family and friends, photography, and watching NASCAR. She was a longtime member of TOPS and was a 26-year member of KOPS.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her longtime companion of 25 years, Larry Welch.
She is survived by a son, Kevin Davis, and his wife, Sandy, of Lyndon; a daughter, Tamela Hastings, and her husband, Edward, of Lyndonville; a brother, Lester Goss of Barnet; eight grandchildren: Jonathan Davis of Sutton, Michael Davis, Samantha Davis and Nicole Davis, all of Lyndonville, Amanda Amadon of Lyndonville, Joshua Hastings, Cassandra Hastings and Christopher Hastings, all of Lyndonville; a great-grandson, Matthew Duda of Lyndonville; her very close sister-in-law Vivian Fox; and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and the extended Welch family.
Funeral services were held January 26 in Lyndonville. Burial will be held in the Lyndon Center Cemetery in Lyndon.

Dorothy Mae (Herman) Emerson Lontine

Dorothy Mae (Herman) Emerson Lontine, 77, died on January 23, 2012, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, surrounded by her loving family.
On November 4, 1951, she married Wayne Emerson who predeceased her on May 19, 1977. In 1978 she married Roland Lontine who survives her.
Mrs. Lontine was a cook at the former Royal Restaurant, Frank’s Steak House, Miss Newport Diner, and the Prouty Inn. Her hobbies included playing bingo, word searches, making puzzles, and going for rides.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport.
She is survived by her children: Shirley Lague and her husband, George, of Derby, Barbara Hammond and her husband, Eric, of Derby, William Emerson of Orleans, Beverly Coffey and her husband, John, of Ingleside, Ontario, Wayne Emerson and his wife, Lisa, of Troy, Deborah McTheeny and her husband, Robert, of Newport, and Nancy Dewing and her husband, Brian, of Coventry; by 19 grandchildren; by 27 great-grandchildren; by her stepchildren: Richard Lontine of East Berkshire, Paul Lontine and his fiancée, Sonia Elwood, of Franklin, Bruce Lontine and his wife, Brenda, of Tennessee, Bobby Lontine and his wife, Sharon, of Swanton, Lynn Lontine and her friend, Dan Scott, of Newport, Steven Lontine and his friend, Melissa Smith, of Newport, and Roland Lontine Jr. and his fiancé, Dale Bartlett, of Franklin; by 19 step-grandchildren; and by 26 step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased her stepdaughter Lisa St. Francis in 2008, by her daughter-in-law Donna Lontine in 2008, and by her mother Pauline Green.
Funeral services were held January 27 in Newport. Spring interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Newport.

Oliver J. Poginy
Oliver J. Poginy, 96, of Derby died on January 22, 2012, in Newport.
He was born November 8, 1915, in Newport, the son of Edward and Asilia (Labounty) Poginy. On October 7, 1947, he married Mary Marshall who predeceased him on June 20, 2007. He entered the United States Army and served his country during World War II. He farmed in Newport Center most of his life and then he worked at Union Butterfield’s in Derby Line until his retirement.
He is survived by his children: James Poginy and his wife, Natti, of Nagatucket, Connecticut, Jane Abbott of Lyndonville, Carolyn Heath and her husband, Jerry, of North Hyde Park, Barbara Fisher and her husband, Gordon, of Littleton, New Hampshire, and Jerry Poginy and his wife, Margie, of Newport; by seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; by several step-grandchildren; by his sister Marie McManus of Newport; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers and a sister.
Funeral services were held January 27 in Derby Line. Spring interment will be in St. Edward’s Cemetery in Derby Line.

Marie L. Smith

Marie L. Smith, 76, died on Friday, January 27, 2012, at her home, after a long illness.
She was born on August 18, 1935, in Norwood, Massachusetts, a daughter of Napolean and Rose (Walker) Lacasse.
She and her husband, Bill, have lived in the Newport area for many years where they brought up their children. Mrs. Smith held different jobs but was very proud when she got her broker’s license and worked with Jetta Smith before becoming associated with Century 21, and between the two had over 20 years in real estate. She served in several different positions for the city of Newport for 20 years.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family with interment in the spring.

Lucille M. St. Onge

Lucille M. St. Onge, 87, formerly of Newport Center and Derby died on Friday, January 27, 2012, in Newport, after a long illness.
She was born January 3, 1925, a daughter of Lucius and Mable (Bowen) Davis in Island Pond.
Mrs. St. Onge was primarily a stay-at-home mom, but found time to be a supervisor of housekeeping at North Country Hospital from 1973 to 1978, and she also worked at Newport Plastics, Ames Department Store, and did a lot of knitting at home.
She and her husband, Ross, owned their own camper, which they enjoyed very much.
She enjoyed playing bingo, arts and crafts, cooking, including making many wedding cakes in the 1950s and ’60s. She especially enjoyed family gatherings.
Besides her husband, Ross, she is survived by her children: Bonnie Draper and her companion, Charles Brissette, Steven Rexford, and Gary St. Onge and his companion, Linda Robertson; by the following grandchildren: Michael Millette and his wife, Jodi, Michelle Moore, Darcy Rippon and her husband, Dale, Lisa McGinnis and her husband, Todd, Craig Rexford and his wife, Melissa, Tanya Searles and her husband, Lar, Dan Rexford and his fiancée, Jessica Clark, Todd Draper and his wife, Vikki, and Tara Wright and her husband, Shawn; by 16 great-grandchildren; and by her sister Priscilla Murphy. She was predeceased by her first husband, Francis Rexford; by two sisters: Norma and Joyce; by a son in-law, Reginald Draper; and by a daughter in-law, Gail Rexford.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road, in Newport, with the Reverend Richard Whitehill officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.
