Crowded field for local Senate seats

When voters from the Essex-Orleans state Senate district cast their votes in the August 11 Primary, whether they go to the polls or mail in their ballots, they will have an unusual array of choices.

Incumbent senators Bobby Starr of North Troy and John Rodgers of Glover are both seeking re-election, but Senator Rodgers missed the deadline to submit petitions to gain a place on the Primary ballot.  He is therefore asking for voters to write in his name.

In most years he might be able to count on success, but this year there are already three people running for the two available nominations, so Mr. Rodgers has already said he will run as an independent in November.
