Campbell University Choir to visit Newport

• Bookmarks: 52

All are invited to attend the Campbell University Choir and Campbell Voices concert on Tuesday, March 6, at 7 p.m., at the United Church of Newport. This is a free concert and part of the Campbell University Choir spring break music tour.

Campbell University is a small, liberal arts university located in Buies Creek, North Carolina. Founded in 1887 as Buies Creek Academy with its primary founding principles to address the most pressing needs of North Carolina, and to educate men and women for Christian service around the world, Campbell University currently enrolls just over 6,000 students.

Newport resident and Vermont native, Brianna Grimm is a senior music education major at Campbell. She is a member of both the choir and Campbell Voices and will also be conducting one piece during the performance. It was at her insistence that the choir makes this trip to Vermont. Ms. Grimm developed her love of music through her participation in the choral and band programs at Newport City Elementary (under music educators Cindy Stone and Bill Prue), and at North Country Union Junior High (with Chris Sellers and Peter Storrings), and at North Country Union High School (taught by Anne Hamilton, Danielle Carrier, and Mr. Prue). She participated in local, regional and state music festivals during junior and senior high school, performed with QNEK for two musical productions, and participated in the Newport based chamber choir Northsong during her senior year of high school. Ms. Grimm is the daughter of Brian and Laurie Grimm of Newport, and hopes, upon graduation, to return to Vermont to teach in part due to the long tradition of support for the arts that she has experienced. — submitted by Laurie Grimm.
