Edward A. Badali, 83, of Island Pond died suddenly on September 10, 2010, in Newport.
He was born on August 26, 1927, in New Haven, Connecticut, a son of Joseph Sr. and Mabel (Hayden) Badali.
On June 12, 1948, he married Theresa Levenduski who survives him.
Mr. Badali entered the U.S. Navy where he served his country during World War II.
He owned and operated E.& F. Electric Company in Hamden, Connecticut. He held memberships with St. James Catholic Church of Island Pond, and the American Legion Post #80 of Island Pond. Among his hobbies he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and he loved being on the water and attending family gatherings.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Badali, of Island Pond; by his children: Ellen Wasilewski and her husband, Daniel, of Chester, Connecticut, Jane Davis and her husband, Wade, of Durham, Connecticut, Linda Lombardi and her husband, William, of North Haven, Connecticut, and Cheryl Badali and her fiancé, Tyler Sabin, of Northfield; by nine grandchildren; and by seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother Joseph Badali Jr., and by his sister Elizabeth Brown.
Funeral services were held on September 13 at St. James Catholic Church in Island Pond with the Reverend Frank Connor celebrating a Mass.

Marie-Paule Coulombe, 93, of Troy died peacefully on September 7, 2010, at her home.
She was born December 18, 1916, in Dixville, Quebec, a daughter of Joseph and Bertha (Crete) Routhier.
On September 23, 1937, she married Archie Coulombe who predeceased her.
Mrs. Coulombe was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne, the senior bowling league of Missisquoi Manor, and the community center of Westfield on Wednesday mornings. She also enjoyed attending the Meeting Place.
At one time, she drove school bus in Troy, and she baked at the former Sonnenhof Inn in Jay. She enjoyed bowling and scored a high single of 174 at the age of 93. She also enjoyed dancing, gardening, baking homemade bread and pies, and playing cards. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her nine children: Roger Coulombe and his wife, Blanche, of Essex Junction, Claudette Limoges and her husband, Art, of Troy, Susan Mismas and her husband, Leon, of Wallingford, Connecticut, Conrad Coulombe and his wife, Lise, of Colchester, Gerald Coulombe and his wife, Aileen, of Newport, Rena Abair and her husband, Michael, of Monument, Colorado, Patrick Coulombe and his wife, Peggy, of Jonesville, Cecile Coulombe Olden and her companion, Ron Wright, of Troy, and Mona Hartnett and her husband, Ed, of Houston, Texas; by 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; by the following brothers and sisters: Valmore Routhier of Florida, Bernard Routhier of Bloomfield, Maurice Routhier of Florida, Lucienne Lamoureaux of Ottawa, twin sister Marie-Ange Sage of Burlington, Madeline Routhier of Troy, and Rejeanne McAllister of Lowel She was predeceased by a son Leo Coulombe.
Funeral services were held on September 11 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Troy with the Reverend Henry Mlinganisa celebrating a Mass. Interment followed in St. Ignatius Cemetery in Lowell.

Gertrude M. Dane
Gertrude M. Dane, of Island Pond, formerly of West Charleston, died in Newport on Thursday, September 9, 2010.
She was born on March 19, 1914, in East Charleston, a daughter of Earl and Arvilla (Lewis) Willis.
She married Bernie Dane on June 22, 1933.
Mrs. Dane spent most of her time raising her family. However, she did work several years at the Orleans County Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Navy Grange and the Free Will Baptist Church of West Charleston, and more recently attended the Brighton Baptist Church.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and cooking. She was the recipient of the Lucy Smith Baking Award for four consecutive years at the Barton fair.
She also enjoyed traveling with the Community Circle, and the ten winters she spent in Florida.
Mrs. Dane loved her many friends at Sunrise Manor in Island Pond, the caring group of nurses and aides from the Visiting Nurses Association, and Dr. Robert Primeau and the staff at the Island Pond Health Clinic. She was also grateful for the wonderful care she received at the Bel-Aire Center.
She is survived by her children: Clair Dane and his wife, Charlotte, of Morgan, Marjorie Judd of Derby, Caroline White of Stephentown, New York; Sandra Brown and her husband, Robert, of Beverly, Massachusetts, and Deana Hallock and her husband, Greg, of Middlesex; by 16 grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Earl; by sons in-law Alan White and Kenneth Judd; a brother; and two sisters.
Funeral services were held on September 14 at the Free Will Baptist Church in West Charleston, with the Reverend Richard Whitehill officiating.

Marion Lillian Darling
Marion Lillian Darling,73, died on September 8, 2010, at her home in Glover.
She was born in Upper Wards Creek, New Brunswick, on January 30, 1937. She moved to the U.S. in 1956 where she began to raise her children. She married Russell Darling on March 6, 1965, and moved to Glover in 1969.
Mrs. Darling worked for many years at the Candlepin restaurant in Barton before returning to work on the Darling farm on Dexter Mountain until she retired due to ill health.
She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting, embroidering, and making cookies with Abigail. She loved going to Florida in the winter in her RV and returning to Vermont in the summer for the horse and pony pulls at the Barton fair every August.
She is survived by her husband, Russell Darling, of Glover; by her children: Gerry English and his wife, Michele, of Glover, Sherry Provencher and her husband, Butch, of Newport, Pamela Massey and her friend Kevin of Barre, Deborah Wease and her husband, Mike, of Glover, and daughter-in-law Lisa Darling of Glover; by the following grandchildren: Amy English of Glover, Gerry English II of Glover, Jason and Ryan Larocque of Lyndonville, Bill Stevens of Glover, Chris Provencher of Virginia, Tina Provencher of North Carolina, Jon Provencher of North Troy, Jessica Massey of Barre, Amanda Darling of Glover, Justin Darling of Glover, and Abigail Darling of Glover; by the following great-grandchildren: Emma and Lily English of Glover, Adrienne and Autumn Larocque of Lyndonville, Bryer and Annika Provencher of North Troy, Lily and Violet Provencher of Virginia, and Brysian and Michael Provencher of North Carolina; by Tara, her cat, who was her constant companion. She was predeceased by her sister Marie Gardner, and her son Randy Darling on August 15, 2007.
Friends may call at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home at 12 Elm Street in Barton on Thursday, September 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. for a celebration of her life. Friends will gather afterwards at the family farm on Dexter Mountain Road. Interment will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.

John Garfield
John W. Garfield Sr., 59, also known as Chief Working Beaver, died on September 4, 2010, at his home in Island Pond surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 25, 1951, in Keene, New Hampshire .
He entered the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. Mr. Garfield was a supervisor for Site Tech, Inc, Heavy Equipment Operations in Prospect, Connecticut. He was an active member and chief of the Clan of Bear and a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed carving and woodworking in Native American arts, and he was a wonderful husband, father and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Lorna Garfield, of Island Pond; his four children: SFC John W. Garfield Jr. and his wife, Michela, of Kentucky, Billie-Jo Picard and her husband, Alan, of Island Pond, Sherrie-Shantel Testa and her husband, Nick, of Connecticut, and Mikey Garfield of Island Pond; by six grandchildren: Scott, Savanna, Lars, Cheyenne, Robert, and Kayla.
Funeral services were held on September 10, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Island Pond with Sister Rainbow officiating. Immediately following the service, military honors wiere held.

Lawrence F. Kipp
Lawrence “Larry” Kipp, 54, of Newport, a longtime insurance agent and agency principal, died on Friday, September 10, 2010, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, surrounded by his son Justin, two of his best friends, and his beloved girlfriend, Sarah.
He was born November 18, 1955, a son of Richard F. and Florence (Hawkins) Kipp.
He was raised in Orleans and was a 1973 graduate of Lake Region Union High School. He received a business degree from Champlain College and joined the family insurance agency, which was started in 1928 by his grandfather Archie Kipp. He later was a co-owner with his brother Steve until the sale of the agency in 2002. In 1998, he received an award as an outstanding agent from the state Insurance Agents Association.
Mr. Kipp loved sports. He played basketball at Lake Region and had been a coach for the girls junior varsity basketball and soccer teams and his son’s Junior Hoop basketball team for three years. He also was instrumental in starting the Orleans area youth soccer league. He enjoyed fishing, especially ice and lake fishing at Willoughby Lake, hunting and golfing. He was an avid Yankees fan. He enjoyed sugarmaking and vegetable and flower gardening. Mr. Kipp was known as a very grateful person, expressing sincere gratitude to all who had done anything for him.
He served Barton for a time as a school board member and also had been an emergency medical technician on the Barton Rescue Squad, as well as a previous officer.
He was a dedicated, loving and giving father and was greatly saddened by the death of his daughter Brooke in her seventeenth year.
Mr. Kipp leaves his mother, Florence “Sally” Kipp, of the Greensboro Nursing Home; his son Justin Kipp of Hanover; a brother Steven Kipp of Daytona Beach, Florida, and Irasburg; a sister Martha Lanham and her husband, Paul, of Enola, Pennsylvania; his girlfriend, Sarah Carpenter, of Newport; a niece Greta Kipp of Irasburg; three nephews: John Kipp of Orleans, Trevor Lanham of Monterey, California, and Kipp Lanham of Washington, D.C.; an aunt Betty Thurber of Middlebury; as well as extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Richard Kipp, on March 2, 1988; and his beloved daughter, Brooke, on March 2, 1998.
A memorial service will be held, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Orleans with Pastor David Lisner officiating.

Madalene Mary Teague Lemnah
Madalene Mary Teague Lemnah, 86, of St. Albans, formerly of Newport, died on September 7, 2010, in Burlington after a short illness. She was able to remain until her son Mark returned from Afghanistan.
She was born May 6, 1924, in Fairfield, a daughter of Benjamin and Iva Pearl (Boomhower) Teague.
She graduated in 1942 from Cathedral High School. Prior to her marriage, she was employed by Bell Telephone. She married Carlton F. Lemnah of Fairfield on October 5, 1950. She and her late husband moved to Newport in 1959, and she became very active within the community. She was a longtime 4-H leader and taught sewing to many young 4-H youngsters. Many a local member will have fond memories of the lessons they learned.
She is survived by her children: Thomas Lemnah of St. Albans, Mark Lemnah and his wife, Francine, of Westford, Carla Lemnah-Warner and her husband, James, of Westfield, Massachusetts, Judith Hayes and her husband, C. Steven, of Fairfax; by her grandson Derrick Lemnah and his son Stewart John Lemnah, along with Derrick’s partner, Melanie Bouchard, and her daughters Abbie and Madison; by granddaughter Renee Welchman and her husband, Kyle, and their daughter Emma; by granddaughter Katie Warner and her friend Eric McCutcheon of Westfield, Massachusetts, and Emily Warner of South Woodbury and her friend Ben Roy; by her granddaughers Mattie and Morgan Hayes of Fairfax and Jeffersonville; by her grandson Dustin Hayes of Fairfax; by her sisters: Elizabeth Hatch of Belfast, Maine, and Ann Hale of East Hartford, Connecticut; by close sisters-in-law Polly Cosgrove, Rosalie Teague, Marion Reynolds, and Ruth Lemnah; by her brother- and sister-in-law Harold and Marlene Lemnah; and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Nancy Lemnah; sister and brother-in-law Robert and Helen Teague; and by two brothers Raymond Teague and Thomas Cosgrove.
Mrs. Lemnah will be sorely missed by her close friends and Gricebrook Community members, and everyone at the St. Albans Senior Center, and especially by her card circle. She was known for her generosity and kindness, but most especially for her love.
Funeral services were held on September 13 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fairfield with the Reverend Leonidas Laroche celebrating a Mass. Interment followed in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fairfield.

Calling hours will be on Friday, September 17, at the Barton United Church from 12 to 1:30 p.m. with burial at the West Glover cemetery at 2 p.m. A celebration of her life will follow at the Barton United Church.
