David B. Bradley

David B. Bradley

 David B. Bradley, 75, of Barton died on November 15, 2012, at Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton with his loving wife and daughter at his side following an illness.

He was born March 15, 1937, in London, England, where he lived until 1947.  He was a son of Thomas and Dorothy (West) Bradley.  On April 6, 1985, he married Tanya Washer Lamphere, who survives him.

Mr. Bradley graduated in 1954 from Phillips-Andover Academy in Andover, Massachusetts.  In 1958, he graduated from Brown University with a degree in classics.  During his senior year, he was the editor of the Brown Daily Herald.  He later continued his education, earning an MBA from Plymouth State University in 1981.

During summer vacations from Brown, Mr. Bradley worked at Coca-Cola.  After graduation, he taught Latin and coached soccer at St. Mark’s School in Southborough, Massachusetts.  He later became a professor of business administration and accounting at Lyndon State College, retiring in 2007.  The graduating class of 1989 elected him to receive the second annual senior class award to faculty.  He also served as a member of the Barton Zoning Board, and on the planning commission and financial committee during the nineties.

Mr. Bradley was an avid reader.  He also loved golf, and was a member of the Barton Country Club.  In the late ’70s he owned Ashuelot Ridge Golf Course in Sullivan, New Hampshire.

He is survived by his wife, Tanya Bradley, of Barton; by his children:  David Bradley of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Mark Bradley and his wife, Maureen McBride, of Wake Forest, North Carolina, Thomas Bradley and his wife, Bailey, of Winooski, and Tara Bradley of Burlington; by his grandchildren:  Rebecca Bradley, Michelle Alexander, and Derek Bradley; and by his brother John A.K. Bradley of New York City.

Funeral services were scheduled to be held at the Barton United Church on Wednesday, November 21, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Christine Finlay officiating.  Interment will follow in the Irasburg Cemetery.  Immediately following the burial, a luncheon is to be held at he Barton United Church.

Andre G. Geoffrey

Andre G. Geoffrey

Andre G. Geoffrey, 63, of Derby Line died suddenly on November 14, 2012, in Newport.

He was born April 20, 1949, in Newport, a son of George and Pauline (Sicard) Geoffrey.

He married Lucy Laframboise, who survives him.  He graduated from North Country Union High School in the class of 1968.

Mr. Geoffrey was a conductor for the Canadian Pacific Railroad where he retired in 1998 after 20 years of service.  He enjoyed camping and going to summer camp in Island Pond, where he liked maintaining the property and clearing trees.

He was a president of the Border Line Ridge Riders, and he was instrumental in establishing trail systems for the group.  He and his wife enjoyed traveling and visiting many different areas of the country.

Mr. Geoffrey dedicated much of his time to music.  He was always looking for new songs to learn and play for his family and friends, as well as for weddings.  He was a member of the band Three Easy Pieces.  He also played for Derby Line Days and other functions, including playing for the residents of many area nursing homes on a regular basis.  He enjoyed jam sessions, playing as a solo guitarist, and with a karaoke machine.  He also enjoyed cribbage tournaments.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Laframboise, of Derby Line; by his son Chris Geoffrey of North Adams, Massachusetts; by his brothers and sisters and their families:  Florence and Jack Coogan of Schenectady, New York, Jeannine and Gene Besaw of Derby, Leo and Evelyn Geoffrey of Derby, Claire and George Lavoie of Derby, Raymond and Shirleen Geoffrey of Newport Center, and Marcel and Darlene Geoffrey of Newport; by his sister- and brothers-in-law: Diane Murray of Coventry, Rhode Island, Lorraine Shepard of Hope Valley, Rhode Island, Robert and Donna Laframboise and Guy and Lisa Laframboise of Santa Ana, California, and Joanne and Peter Moran of Lewiston, New York, and Newport.

Funeral services were held on November 20 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Derby Line where a Mass was celebrated.

William Spencer Lawson

William Spencer Lawson

William Spencer Lawson, 73, lost his courageous battle with cancer and went to be with the Lord on November 12, 2012.

Mr. Lawson was born on November 30, 1938, in Coventry to Norman and Alice (Spencer) Lawson and attended Coventry Graded School and Orleans High School, Class of 1956.

He grew up on the family farm in Coventry and then married his wife, Barbara Irene (Cutting) Lawson on April 7, 1961.  They began farming on Burton Hill in Barton, then purchased the home farm on the Covered Bridge Road in Irasburg in 1969 where they continued to farm until Mr. Lawson’s retirement.

He served many years in community service on the Irasburg School Board, the Irasburg Fire Department, the Farm Service Agency Board, and the Soil Conservation Board.  He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.  He also loved to snowmobile and hunt, but what he enjoyed the most was drawing diagrams of his future woodworking projects.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara; his son Douglas and his wife, Manon, and their children:  Donna, Seth, and Emily, all of Irasburg; his son Mark and his wife, JoAnn, of Coventry and their children:  Kevin, Shawn, and Danielle and her husband, Kyle; his great-granddaughter Emma; very special niece Elaine and her husband, Oliver, of Irasburg and their six children; his sister Nancy Newton and her husband, Edwin; his nephew Chuck and niece Amy; and by several other nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his grandsons William and Jason in 1993.

Funeral services were held at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport on November 17 with Pastors Glen Saaman and David Lisner officiating.

Donations in his memory can be made to Hope House, 237 East Avenue, Burlington, Vermont 05401-3412, where he stayed before his surgery.

Bonnie J. Provencher

Bonnie J. Provencher

 Bonnie J. Provencher, 59, of Derby died at her home surrounded by her loving family on November 11, 2012.

She was born on August 24, 1953, in Troy, a daughter of the late Jack R. Armstrong and Beverly M. Collins.  She was employed at Ethan Allen as a ripsaw operator.

Ms. Provencher enjoyed going to Florida and Foxwood Casino in Connecticut with her companion, Ron, watching hummingbirds come to her feeders, and taking pictures.  She absolutely loved family gatherings and being with her grandchildren.  She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles and a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her children:  Shane Provencher and his wife, Nikki, of Troy and Terry Provencher and his wife, Amanda, of Derby; by her companion of 25 years, Ron Griffin, of Derby; by her mother, Beverly Collins Armstrong, and her friend, Raymond Lessard; by her grandchildren:  Paige, Haven, Jonas, Nicholas, Meia, Jonathan, Ashleigh, Coby, Dakota, and Averie Provencher; by her brothers:  Steven Armstrong and Terry Armstrong, both of White River Junction, and Brent Armstrong and his wife, Lynne, of Virginia; by her sister Barbara Meier and her friend, Dennis Demaris, of Barton; by her stepmother, Claudia Armstrong, of Derby; by Steven Griffin and his wife, Sybil, of South Carolina, Randall Griffin and his wife, Lorraine, of Morgan, Michael Griffin of Derby, Tanya Gregoire and her husband, Jason, of Swanton; by grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her son Jonathan.

Funeral services were held on November 16 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport, with the Reverend Richard Whitehill officiating.  Interment followed in Pleasantview Cemetery in Orleans.

Edith Ida Savoy Sloan

 Edith Ida Savoy Sloan, 91, died peacefully on November 10, 2012, at Starr Farm Nursing Home in Burlington.

Those who knew her will miss her, but after 25 years she was ready to rejoin the love of her life, Hubert Dustin Sloan.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Sloan was on born on October 21, 1921, in Montreal, Quebec, to Frank Savoy and Ida Maude Maxwell Savoy.  She married Hubert in 1939 at the Church of Notre Dame in Montreal.

She is survived by her four children:  Marcia Louise Sloan Quinn of Calgary, Alberta, Jeffrey Hubert Sloan of Richmond, John David Sloan, and Judy Sloan MacReynolds.

Though she lived the majority of her life in her beloved Island Pond, she moved, with her family, to Montreal, Couteau QC, and Portland, Maine, as the wife of a Canadian National Railway engineer.  She will be remembered as a woman of strength, resilience and as an amazing friend who loved a good laugh.  She was a loving mother who spent 91 years contributing her love, knowledge and generosity to all who knew her.

Funeral services were held on November 15 at St. James Catholic Church in Island Pond where a Mass was celebrated.  Interment followed in Lakeside Cemetery in Island Pond.

Ralph J. Tinker

Ralph J. Tinker

 Ralph J. Tinker, 83, of Newport died on November 13, 2012, in Newport.

He was born on September 30, 1929, in Newport Center, a son of Floyd and Doris (Bowman) Tinker.  On February 26, 1955, he married Nancy Grow, who predeceased him on July 16, 2004.

Mr. Tinker was a veteran of the Korean War where he served on the front line.  For many years, he was a dairy farmer in Newport Center where he worked for Merton Thayer and Marty Before.  His hobbies included going camping with his children and grandchildren and working on his puzzle books.  He held membership with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #798.

He is survived by his children:  Debra Young and her husband, Leland, of Albany, Sandra Benware and her husband, Larry, of Derby, Bernie Tinker and his wife, Betty, of Derby, Brian Tinker of Kentucky, Roger Tinker of Holland, Michael Tinker of Derby Line, and Diane McAllister and her husband, Scott, of Derby; by his grandchildren:  Karen, Billy, Milo, Liza, Jaime, Jonathan, Eric, Meghan, Benjamin, Andrew, Aaron, Amanda, Kyle, Heather, Daniele, Marie, and Amy; by 32 great-grandchildren; by his brother Bruce Tinker of Barton; by his sister-in-law Betty Limlaw of Derby; by his nieces and nephews; and by very dear friends from Maine:  Betty and Garry Spencer, Blanche Ranger, and Lori and Marty Before.

He was predeceased by his brother Dale Tinker and by his granddaughter Tanya Lynn Tinker.

Funeral services were held at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport on November 15 with the Reverend Frank Beaty officiating.  Interment followed in the Newport Center Cemetery with full military honors.
