Dorothy D. Barney
Dorothy D. Barney, 90, died in New Canaan, Connecticut, on April 4, 2010.
She was born on May 21, 1920, a daughter of Dr. Stilman G. Davis and Harriet (Gilbert) Davis.
She graduated from Nashua High School and earned her nursing degree at the Deaconess Hospital in Boston. She met her husband, Maurice Barney, in Boston. They were married in Nashua, New Hampshire, in 1943, and had a wedding reception at the Pilgrim Congregational Church in East Charleston.
She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter, and later earned certification to teach quilting.
She is survived by her children: Susan Bowers of Jackson, Ohio; Catherine Watson of New Canaan, Connecticut; Gerald Barney of Syracuse, New York; Dee Payfer of Groton, Connecticut; Bruce Barney of Portland, Oregon; and Christine Barney of White River Junction; by eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice Barney.
After retirement, the Barneys moved to Waldoboro, Maine, but spent many summers at their family camp on Echo Lake. This was one of Mrs. Barney’s favorite locations of all the places they had lived.
A memorial service for Dr. and Mrs. Barney will be held July 3 at 2 p.m. at the Pilgrim Congregational Church in East Charleston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, or to the Charleston Historical Society.
Roland C. Denton Jr.
Roland C. (Rollie) Denton Jr., 68, of North Troy, a well-known businessman, died suddenly on June 22, 2010, in Newport.
He was born on May 30, 1942, in Wolcott, a son of Roland Sr., and Bessie (Moodie) Denton.
On November 11, 1961, he married Karleen Haynes who survives him.
Mr. Denton was the owner and operator of the B&D Supermarket in North Troy from 1960 to 2009. He was on the advisory board of the Troy branch of Community National Bank, a trustee and deacon of the First Congregational Church in North Troy, and on the board of civil authority of the town of Troy. He was also a member of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO) and the North Troy Village Cemetery Association. He was inducted to the 2008 Orleans Northern Essex Athletic Hall of Fame for Basketball.
He coached boys and girls basketball at North Troy elementary and high school, and girls varsity basketball and boys baseball at North Country Union High School. He was also a member of the Newport Country Club, and he enjoyed snowmobiling. Mr. Denton was voted fan of the year for North Country Union High School in prior years. He was dedicated to kids and helped them develop their skills. He was an avid Yankees, Celtics, Detroit Lions, and Detroit Red Wings fan. He played for the North Troy Townies softball team and the Border Bandits basketball team and played for the Ayers Cliff baseball team. In high school, he tried out for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team as a pitcher.
He loved his store and the customers who supported him, and he returned many favors. He thoroughly enjoyed his family and had a special love for his cats. Due to previous illnesses he appreciated every single day, living them to the fullest, and he had no problem expressing his feelings. He greeted everyone with his warm and caring smile, which will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Karleen Denton, of North Troy; his children: Cris Choquette and her husband, Randy, of North Troy, Terri Medley and her husband, Doug, of North Troy, and a special adopted son, Robert Moore, of Ohio; five grandchildren: Monica and Bryan Choquette, and Aaron, Andrew, and Derek Medley; a brother Bernard Denton and his wife, Sandy, of South Burlington; a sister Janice Hansen of North Troy; a brother-in-law Dorio Roberts of North Troy; and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Roland and Bessie Denton; his in-laws Harold and Dorothy Haynes; three sisters: Geneva Roberts, Harriett Garrett, and Jeannette Wisnieski; and by three brothers-in-law: Edmond Garrett, Bruce Hansen, and Chester Wisnieski.
Funeral services were held on June 26 at the First Congregational Church in North Troy with Pastor Rick Shover officiating. Interment followed in North Troy Village Cemetery.

Diane Diffenbacher
Diane Diffenbacher of Newport, formerly of Billerica, Massachusetts, died on June 23, 2010, in Newport.
She was born May 7, 1939, in Boston, Massachusetts.
On May 17, 1957, she married James Diffenbacher, who predeceased her on November 24, 2004.
She was a loving and devoted mother and dear friend and will be deeply missed. She is survived by six children: Jeanne Maciejewski and her husband, Brian, of Westford, Massachusetts; James Diffenbacher and his wife, Linda, of Dracut, Massachusetts; Janice McBride of Manchester, New Hampshire; Joyce Bailey and her husband, Gerard, of Manchester; Heidi Bennett and her husband, Alec, of Shirley, Massachusetts; and Brenda Babcock and her husband, Mark, of Tyingsboro, Massachusetts; by 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; by a brother Ernest Scurrah of Rochester, New Hampshire; by several nieces and nephews; and by cousin Emily Attardo of Ipswich, Massachusetts; as well as dear friends Foster Coburn, Marcel Gosselin, and Pauline Bouffard.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Raymond Lawrence Jacobs
Raymond (Pat) Lawrence Jacobs, 84, of Brownington and Enfield, New Hampshire, died peacefully at the Rowan Court Health Nursing and Rehab Center in Barre on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, with his youngest daughter, Vivian Giles, by his side.
He was born February 14, 1926, in Wolcott, a son of the late Edwin and Clara Jacobs.
He was predeceased by his sister Lillie Rowell; and his brothers Myron and Charlie Jacobs, all of Calais; and by his first wife, Vetaline V. LaClair, of Dade City, Florida.
Mr. Jacobs was employed as a head butcher at Dartmouth College until his retirement. He volunteered at the White River VA Medical Center for many years. He will be remembered as a person who liked to be punctual, honest as a day was long, and enjoyed people who were the same. He enjoyed country western music and television shows.
Survivors include his wife, Rita M. Duhame, of West Lebanon, New Hampshire; three daughters: Janice Provoncha and her husband, Dennis, of Dade City; Norma Pellerin and her husband, Donald, of Dunnville, Kentucky; Vivian Giles and her husband, Dale, of Claremont, New Hampshire; his sister Dot Fellows of Hardwick; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews in the Calais area.
A memorial service will be held this summer at the convenience of the family at the Fairview Cemetery in East Calais. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
Florence Larocque
Florence Mardell Carter Beck Larocque, 93, of Derby, died on June 15, 2010.
She was born on December 17, 1916, a daughter of Dr. Frederick and Mrs. Mardell (Atkins) Carter, and lived most of her life in the Derby/Newport area.
She was a graduate of Derby Academy and Champlain Business College in Burlington, and she worked as a secretary. She also served as organist at the United Church of Newport for many years.
She was married December 22, 1942, to Charles E. “Bud” Beck of Newport, who predeceased her on December 28, 1974.
She married John “Rocky” Larocque of Richford on January 22, 1977. He also predeceased her on August 7, 1991.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Mary Price, who cared for “Grammy Flo” for many years, allowing her to continue to live in her home.
Mrs. Larocque is survived by her three children; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren: son Lawrence Alton (Larry) Beck and his wife, Sammye, of Joplin, Missouri, and their three children: Adam Charles Beck and his wife, Becky, Adrian Ralph Beck, and Aaron John Beck, his wife, Heather, and their children Rowan Lawrence and Jillian Rose; son Dr. Frederick Allan (Fred) Beck I and his wife, Sally, of Greensboro, North Carolina, and their two children, Frederick Allan Beck II, his wife, Cindy, and their children Frederick Allan Beck III, Aaron Morgan Beck, Joseph Adrian Beck, and Sarah Catherine Beck, and Tracey Jane Beck Wray, her husband Bo Wray, and children Lindsey Michelle Douglas and Jamie Michelle Howell; and by daughter Barbara Ellen Beck Kendall and her husband, LTC (retired) Ray Kendall, M.D., and their children Amy Kristina Kendall and Ian David Kendall and his wife, Jodie.
Graveside services were held June 18 at the Derby Center Cemetery under the direction of the Reverend Fred Beck.

Theresa M. LeBlanc
Theresa M. LeBlanc, 80, of Newport died suddenly at her home on June 27, 2010.
She was born August 24, 1929, in Irasburg, a daughter of Arcade and Georgiana (Stewart) St. Amand.
On August 2, 1948, she married Valerien LeBlanc who predeceased her on April 2, 2000.
She and her late husband ran the “Veetee” family dairy farm in Barton for 30 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Senior Bowling League, and she volunteered at North Country Hospital. She also enjoyed golfing with her friends.
She is survived by her children: Suzanne Johnson and her husband, Kevin, of Colchester, Irene LeBlanc of Milton, Annette LeBlanc of Nashua, New Hampshire, Mariette Rice and her husband, Ronald, of Essex Junction, Daniel LeBlanc and his wife, Cecile, of Rutland; and by the following grandchildren: Brendan and Cullen Johnson, JorDani LeBlanc, Jesse, Ronnell and Brady Rice, and Arielle LeBlanc; by a great-granddaughter Katarina Rice; two brothers: Gerard St. Amand of Delaware, and John St. Amand of Long Island, New York; a sister Margaret LeBlanc of Newport; by several nieces and nephews: and by family friend Louise Evans of Brownington. She was predeceased by a daughter Angela LeBlanc.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday June 30, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newport where a Mass will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Theresa’s Cemetery in Orleans.

Maurice Barney
Maurice Barney, 92, a son of Gerald B. Barney and Gladys (Piper) Barney died in New Canaan, Connecticut, on February 22, 2010.
He was born in East Charleston on June 24, 1918, and attended the Echo Lake School.
He graduated from Derby Academy in 1935, and earned a bachelor of science degree from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, in 1939. He earned his medical degree from Tufts University in Boston in 1943. After completing his internship and residency at Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston, he entered the Army Air Corps where he served for two years. He then became the director of the Frontier Nursing Services in Hyden, Kentucky. He attended the University of Rochester, in Rochester, New York, to complete his training in obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Barney was a practicing obstetrician in Rochester until his retirement in 1984.
He was married in 1943 to Dorothy Davis, a nurse he met in Boston. Wojciech Obarzanek
Wojciech Obarzanek, 63, of Barton died suddenly June 24, 2010, in Newport.
He was born July 17, 1946, in Poland, a son of Czeslaw and Wanda Obarzanek.
He married Grazyna Madej who predeceased him in 2005. He and his late wife owned and operated the Ten Acres Lodge in Stowe for six years until 2005. Among his hobbies, he loved to swim, and play the organ, piano, violin, and guitar. He sang in operas in Poland.
He is survived by his daughter Lucille Obarzanek of New York City, and by a brother and sister in Poland.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, July 1, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Barton with the Reverend Sixmund Nyabenda celebrating a Mass.

Stephen Prebish Jr.
Stephen Prebish Jr., 91, of Newport died on June 23, 2010, at his home.
He was born January 17, 1919, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, a son of Stephen Sr. and Anna (Kolchak) Prebish.
On September 30, 1950, he married Lucille Tetreault, who survives him.
Mr. Prebish was a supervisor for water pollution control for the state of New York. He was a veteran of World War II. He enjoyed fishing on his boat in Long Island, New York, and watching sports on television. His hobbies included playing golf, working in his garden, and building two houses. He also enjoyed family visits, fishing on Lake Memphremagog, and cooking, especially making pizza. Mr. Prebish loved his country and his flag.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Prebish, of Newport; a sister Mary Cunningham of Pennsylvania; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Cathryn and Anna, and by his brothers Joe and John.
Funeral services were held on June 26 at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport, where a Mass was celebrated. Interment will take place on Thursday, July 1, at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center with military honors.

Ina Maud Worth
Ina Maud Worth of Island Pond died in Newport on May 16, 2010, at the age of 88.
She was born in Carmen, Manitoba, Canada, on June 18, 1921, a daughter of Grace and Charles Wolcott.
Delmond Worth, her husband of 57 years, predeceased her in September 1997. A son, Edward Worth, predeceased her in June of 2008.
Mrs. Worth belonged to Christ Episcopal Church of Island Pond, Eastern Star, Random Ladies, Ladies Auxiliary and Knights of the Round Table, and American Legion #80 of Island Pond. She was one of the co-founders of the Island Pond Historical Society.
She taught second and third grades at Brighton Elementary School for several years. Afterward, she enjoyed retired teachers’ meetings. Her husband chauffeured her and her friends; all liked the variety of programs immensely. She loved to play cards, laugh, and have a nice lunch. She participated in an investment club. She and her husband traveled to several destinations over the years.
She is survived by her son Barry Worth of Knowlton, Quebec; daughter Barbara Daniels and her husband, Dennis, of St. Johnsbury; by grandchildren: Lillian Worth and Samuel Worth of Norwich; a sister Eleanor Thompson of Newport; a brother William Wolcott and his wife, Gerry, from Franklin, West Virginia; and sister-in-law Laura Worth of Island Pond.
Mrs. Worth will be remembered fondly by family and friends. Funeral services were held on May 22 at the Christ Episcopal Church in Island Pond with the Reverend Robert Castle and the Reverend Muriel O’Gorman officiating. Interment followed in Lakeside Cemetery in Island Pond.
