Marie H. Baird
Marie H. Baird, 84, of Newark, died Saturday afternoon, July 2, 2011, in Brownington, following a long illness, with her family by her side.
She was born March 13, 1927, in Peterbough, New Hampshire, a daughter of Sidney and Grace Ellsworth Bowler.
While attending Conval High School, Mrs. Baird had a love for basketball, being so talented at the sport, she was often called the Amazon Woman.  After graduating from Conval High School in Peterbough, she spent many years as a basketmaker at the Peterbough Basket Shop.
She married Donald Baird on April 27, 1946, and soon after they developed Baird Paving in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, where they ran the business for many years, leaving it to their son Harlan and his wife, Joyce Baird, in 1986.
Mrs. Baird loved sharing her time fishing, hunting, admiring the great outdoors with her grandchildren and friends, cleaning in her flower gardens, picking berries, riding her lawnmower with her dog Sassy, spending precious moments with her house birds, cats and dogs, watching and feeding wild birds and taking long country rides looking for wildlife.  She was a talented artist who taught painting, and ceramics and arts and crafts.  She spent years doing volunteer work, including making mittens and hats for the local Santa Fund.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1986, her parents, and her best friend, Sally Goodwin.
Mrs. Baird leaves behind her children:  Harlan and Joyce Baird of Jaffrey, Amber and Russell LaFleur of Newark, Marlene Baird of Brownington; eight grandchildren including:  Richard Baird, Jerome and Heather Baird, William and Teresa Debonville, Melanie and Richard Beauregard, Patrick Debonville, William and Prudence Helstein, David and Sarah Helstein, and Donald Baker; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many beloved friends.
A graveside service will be held for the family.

Lucile H. Buschman
Lucile H. Buschman, 93, of Derby Line, died on July 8, 2011, in Lebanon, New Hampshire, after an accidental fall in Derby.
She was born on January 18, 1918, in Sheffield, a daughter of Ray and Leila (Barber) Wood.
In 1965 she married Donald Buschman who survives her.
Mrs. Buschman tried to keep herself physically fit and could often be seen walking in Derby Line where she lived with her husband.  She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. She graduated from Lyndon State Teachers’ College with a bachelor’s degree.
As a younger woman, she taught for several years in different towns including, Burke, Barton, Derby, and Derby Line.
Besides her husband, Donald Buschman, of Derby Line, she is survived by her children:  Linda Ryan and her husband, Ted, of Shelburne, and Jim Harper and his wife, Linda Knize-Harper, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; by her grandchildren:  Jennifer Ryan and her husband, Phillip, of Dupont, Washington, Stephanie Ryan of Four Oaks, North Carolina, and Eileen Harper of Colorado Springs; and by her great-grandson Schyler Ryan of Dupont, Washington.  She was predeceased by her sister Evelyn Wood and her first husband, Jim Harper, in 1958.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 15, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home at 4670 Darling Hill Road in Newport.  Friends may call at the funeral home on July 15 from 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral.  Interment will follow in the Craftsbury Common Cemetery in Craftsbury.

Monique C. Campbell

At sunrise on July 5, 2011, Monique C. Campbell, 80, of Orleans died at her home.
She was born September 28, 1930, in St. Malachie, Quebec, a daughter of Joseph and Regina (Patoine) Leblond.
On September 6, 1958, she married Fernand Campbell who survives her.
She was a waitress and she also was employed by Ethan Allen Manufacturing in Orleans.  She was a member of St. Theresa’s Church and she was a former secretary for St. John’s the Baptiste Society.  She was also a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church Ladies Guild.
Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, cooking, singing, and taking care of everyone’s needs in the family.
She is survived by her husband, Fernand Campbell, of Orleans; her children:  Denise Campbell and her fiancé, Wayne King, of Williamstown, Carmen and her husband, Reg Riendeau, of Orleans, Louise Campbell and her husband, Norman Fortin, of Holland, and Francis Campbell and his companion, Rhonda Cole, of Newport Center; by 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; by her brothers and sisters Benoit Leblond and his wife, Rosalie, of Newport Center, Jean-Guy Leblond of Orleans, Rejeanne Leblond of Derby Line, and Susan Frizzell and her husband, Michael, of Charleston.  She was predeceased  by two brothers, Robert and Andre Leblond, and by a sister, Jacqueline O’Brien.
Funeral services were held on July 7 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Orleans with the Reverend Sixmund Nyabenda celebrating a Mass. Interment followed in St. Theresa’s Cemetery in Orleans.

Alice L. Hilliker

Alice L. Hilliker, 96, of Barton died in Newport on July 5, 2011.
She was born January 27, 1915, in Barton, a daughter of  George and Ellen (Healey) Goodfellow.
In 1941 she married Ronald Hilliker who predeceased her.
Mrs. Hilliker was a past member of the Mother’s Club, Home Dem, and Community Circle.  She is a member of the Eastern Star and the Orleans Federated Church.
She was a hairdresser for over 50 years in the Orleans area.  She also enjoyed cooking, playing cards with family and friends, playing bingo and she was a devoted Red Sox fan.
She is survived by her son Keith Hilliker and his wife, Jeannie, of Massachusetts; by her grandchildren:  Rhonda Colburn and her husband, Marvin, of Barton, Robert Jenne Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Irasburg, Sara Lee Kimball and her husband, Brian, of Derby, and Ann Marie Howell of Massachusetts; by her great-grandchildren Torre Colburn, Nicholas Jenne, and Michael and Jenna Letourneau; and by her son-in-law Robert Jenne Sr. and his wife, Colleen, of Barton.  She was predeceased by her daughter Patricia Jenne, and by several brothers and sisters.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, at the Irasburg Cemetery with the Reverend Evelyn Coupe officiating.

Theresa A. Simonu, 83, of Newport died on July 10, 2011, in Newport surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 17, 1927, in Beebe, Quebec, a daughter of Arthur and Alma (Corriveau) Duquette.
She married Joseph T. Simonu who predeceased her on July 16, 2003.
She and her late husband owned and operated the former J.B. Police Store on Main Street in Newport for many years.  Among her hobbies, she enjoyed traveling, playing bingo and cards, and family get-togethers.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary Post 21.
She is survived by her children:  David Simonu and his wife, Lina, of Mansfield Depot, Connecticut, Patricia Cook and her husband, Darrel, of Hebron, Maryland, Nancy Roeber and her husband, Walter, of Alexandria, Virginia, Denise (Simonu) Stearns and her partner, Rusty Bartlette, of Bethlehem, New Hampshire, and Michelle Tetreault and her husband, Camil, of Barton; by her grandchildren:  Gregory Allen and Rachel Robillard of Sutton, and Kelly Amyot and her wife, Ericka, of North Troy; by great-granddaughter Briana Allen; by her brother Arvelin Duquette of Calgary, Alberta; by her sister Irene Cronin of Magog, Quebec; and by many nieces and nephews.  She loved her cats, Duke and  Mr. Rogers.  She was predeceased by two sisters:  Dorothy Blouin and Beatrice Garneau.
Friends may call from 6-8  p.m. on Wednesday,  July 13, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home at 37 Lake Road in Newport where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 14.  Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
