NEK-TV local cable access station on Comcast channels 15 and 17 has extended hours of operation to the following times: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The community is encouraged to use the facilities to learn how to create video programs for NEK-TV. Training and space is provided free of charge. The station is located at 561 East Main Street in Newport. An appointment is not necessary.
OSH MUSEUM FALL FOLIAGE RUN, WALK & BIKE
There will be a half marathon run, a 5K run, a 5K walk, and a 12-mile bike race in Brownington on Sunday morning, September 12. All races start and finish in front of the Old Stone House Museum. The half marathon run registration is from 7 to 8 a.m., with the race starting at 8:05; register for other events from 8 to 9 a.m. Bike race starts at 9:05, 5K run starts at 9:10 and 5K walk starts at 9:15. After the races there will be prizes awarded, apple cider pressing, and food. The registration fee is $15 before September 1 or $20 after September 1, and includes a T-shirt. A Help Hotline gives farmers a resource to call with issues of stress caused by financial problems. These phone numbers will enable farmers to reach the staff of Rural and Agricultural VocRehab (RAVR), AgrAbility, Farm Viability business planners, dairy management teams, farm business planners, and other UVM Extension specialists. NEW RCT ROUTES FOR ELDERLY & DISABLED
The Northeastern Vermont Area Agency on Aging and Rural Community Transportation have established two new routes that are free of charge for the elderly and disabled. The Lowell Mountain Shopper route runs the first and third Thursdays of each month from Westfield to Newport and return, with stops along the way. The Northern Lights van route runs on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month from Troy to Newport and return, with stops along the way. For more information, call (877) 213-6402.
WEEKLY BUS ROUTE FROM ISLAND POND TO NEWPORT
Island Pond Services, in conjunction with Rural Community Transportation and the Area Agency on Aging, are offering a weekly route from Island Pond to Newport every Thursday, alternating a route along Route 111 through Morgan with travel along Route 105 through East and West Charleston. The bus holds 12 passengers and is equipped with a wheelchair lift. It can be used for doctors’ appointments, groceries, prescriptions, shopping, or errands.
