P.J. Hammond Art Gallery
Phyllis Joy Hammond has had the P.J. Hammond Art Gallery on the Lake Road in Newport Center for many years. Her work is known throughout the United States, Canada, Alaska, Europe, and even Japan. Mrs. Hammond is known as a very diverse artist. However, her book Traveling with Wildflowers from
Newfoundland to Alaska definitely established her as a wildflower painter. Generally she works with acrylics or watercolors. As a youngster she studied art with Elsa Bley, graduated from Wellesley College, and studied privately with Hyman Bloom in Boston for a short time after college. Much later she took a brief botanical art course at the New York Botanical Gardens with famous Australian botanical painter Jenny Phillips. Come to her gallery and see her Alaskan work. She has been a speaker and has visited Alaska five times. Also see her Egyptian painting and other work. She still has her book for sale, and cards and
bookmarks for little gifts. To be sure not to miss her, Mrs. Hammond would prefer that you
call her when you wish to visit. In warmer times the gallery is open six days a week.
