Survey says:

The Chronicle is the newspaper most people read in the Newport area.  According to marketing results from the Downtown Newport Market Analysis, 43.08 percent of people read the Chronicle, 39.74 percent read the Newport Daily Express, and 25.75 percent read the Orleans County Record.  Advertisers:  this is where you want to be.

The Chronicle celebrated its 40th birthday on March 28, 2014.  That’s 40 years of being your community newspaper.  We are locally owned, locally produced and pride ourselves on making sure all points of view are represented.

Our veteran editorial staff takes a deeper, more comprehensive look at the issues affecting the Northeast Kingdom.  We give you the stories you want to read about the accomplishments and struggles of your neighbors and friends.

In the past year, the Chronicle’s publisher and owner Chris Braithwaite was named to the New England Newspaper and Press Association Hall of Fame, and a story about the complicated court case stemming from the Sheffield murder of Mary Pat O’Hagan written by Bethany M. Dunbar was named best local story by a nondaily in Vermont for 2012 and 2013 by the Vermont Press Association.  These awards join dozens on our shelves recognizing the Chronicle for outstanding columns, editorials, stories and photographs.

Our newspaper circulation is 7,200 papers sold each week.  We all know of neighbors who share a paper between two households, so it’s clear to us that the newspaper studies that show about three people read each weekly newspaper are accurate if not low.  So by advertising in the paper, you will reach at least 21,000 people who are each likely to spend 45 minutes with that edition.

Don’t advertise in print publications any more?  You need to be right here on the Chronicle’s website.  The free part of the site is updated three times a week and gets 8,000 unique visitors each month.  Online subscribers come through the site as well.  Don’t have a website?  This business directory is an inexpensive way to get online for a year.

The Chronicle is put together for you every week with honesty, respect, fairness and a little good humor to keep you smiling.  Thanks for letting us be your community newspaper for 40 years!
